I only think a game is worth the money if it has decent multiplayer content. Lucky I've always liked playing CS...

I enjoyed HL2 single player though.
Decent enough story, a bit of thinking without being totally frustrating, and a fairly decent giggle factor...

I bought this cause I thought I should see what all the fuss was about and I was tying to find a couple of FPS that I could play ok single player. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would to be honest. The steam thing is an annoyance (but that's probably cause I don't like having things talking to the world that I don't really control). I had some graphics problems which mostly seem to have settled down now. I play AA mostly so this is a umm culture shock to say the least. I gotta say the 'puzzles' are simply lame though . All in all a bit of fun so why the hell not. I guess the price is probably better in the states as well.

I haven't actually tried CS yet though. Have to try to get on with you guys at some stage butterfly. I guess if you are praccing I could be a live target.

I bought it and just finished it. Thought it was excellent - the best fps single player game I have played ever. Amazing graphics and atmosphere.

Just finished as well. Awesome graphics and scenery. The "We don't go to Ravensholme" level was very spooky and I enjoyed all of the Fathers traps.

Likewise I need to have a go at CS source now to see what it's like.

great game, plenty of game time (unlike for ex. max payne 2, finished in about 3 hours), great graphics and physics, plenty of atmosphere, probably game of the year (with WoW), give it a go.

For Australians: ff you don't want to spend too much cash, get it from www.zest.co.th, it cost me AU$47 including registered mail shipping for the english version in the original box (G-Man), or you can order the thai version for even cheaper (plus it comes with the CDs in jewel cases instead of crappy paper holder) and convert to english with Steam. I don't have share in zest or anything, just very happy with the savings.

Ah yes, I knew there was something I intensely disliked about the game - Steam.

It is so annoying.

Default Suffering from head crabs? Time to see your doctor!

There is this "unofficial" background here

http://fragfiles.org/~hlstory/

It gives this persons opinion to the story line and history of Half Life.

Myself, I agree with some of his points and have trouble with others:

-The origins of the head crab and what is their purpose? If the head crab comes from Xen, then why aren't there Vortigen/head crab zombies? Surely the best way to combat head crabs is just to wear a helmet?

-If the earth, with its current military force, was defeted in eight (?) hours, then how are the remnants of the world supposed to defeat the combine? What did the combine use to defeat earth in eigth hours? Surely they would just leave this fighting force on earth to suppress any uprising, there is no need to use altered inhabitants with combine technology.

I have a few other problems with the story, but meh, I still like it a lot.

bought it for $68.95 from BigW and am still going through it !!! average story but very nice graphics and some great weapons (grav gun my fav). The new CS is also very nice, better looking than the old CS but with most of the old maps we all love so much but just revamped with some nice touchs like dumped cars and oil barrels lying around.
