Default CoD Optimizations

Talking with one of your members earlier, and I kind of pieced together that not ALL of you are "computer-people". For those of you who know the tricks and feel that this is a waste of your time... Later.

Otherwise, here it is; quick and painless.

#1.) Before you start the game, open up the program that cofigures your video driver.

- ATI = Catalyst
- Nvidia = Nview

#2) Override your refresh rate to the HIGHEST POSSIBLE ( without making you reboot cause you lost the image and can't get it back.)

- ATI ----> Catalyst control center, -----> Display Manager -----> Right click -----> Device Properties -------> Refresh Rate override. (Use the DDCI info if available. Trust me.) Turn it up to about 100Hz if possible. You want to go as high as possible without it going goofy on you.

EXAMPLE:

See Below I guess.

- Nvidia-------> Now you're screwed. I don't own an Nvidia, but have a buddy who does I remember it being pretty simple. You'll figure it out.

#3) USE at your OWN RISK:

BIOS:

Don't dick around with this unless you are either sure what you do will have no effect on you, or don't care if you get data corruption. (Overzealous OverClocking). Instead of getting into this, I'll leave you a link with plenty of info. Enjoy http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=1

#4) Set your fps IN GAME and IN CONSOLE (~) to 0 = Infinite. This is achieved with /com_maxfps 0.

#5) Turn Sync Every Frame OFF. In video options I think. If not then in Multiplayer options. You'll find it.

#6) DEFRAGMENT YOUR HARD DRIVE REGULARLY

http://www.executive.com/defrag/defrag.asp

Most people don't understand just how much of a difference fragmentation makes. Windows' Defrag prog. is a joke. Takes forever, and isn't very thorough. So here's a link to what is BAR-NONE the best defrag prog on the market. Takes fragmentation from bad to 0% in about 3 minutes after having defragged a few times before. I'm not gonna lie and say that the FIRST time you run it won't take 20+ miniutes, but after that first time.... You get a full defrag done in under a minute (depending on machine and drive. SATA Mo' fasta") Best to defrag every couple of days. With this prog, it can be done at night, full scheduling capability. Defrag your master file table. all sorts of shit computer nerds thinks is neat. Anyway, I'm bored of writing this... Leave questions, I answer later. Update your video driver too. Foo!

Quake3 engine based games prefer and run smoother with a fixed (constant) fps. Default setting is 85

There are some figures that theoretically will assist things like jumping. It's not really that noticable in CoD though. From memory these figures are 43, 76, 125 and 333 fps.

I use com_maxfps 72 which makes the game run at a constant 76 fps.
I can get over 300 fps in CoD when set to 0 but it runs better locked at 72

Default Thanks for the info

I've wondered before if we really needed the sync every frame and what it did.

thanks
