Vietcong is one the most underrated and overlooked FPSs ever released. Yes its release in 2003 saw some significant issues but these were quickly patched. This class based game gives us an awesome singleplayer experience and a variety of multiplay game modes including co-op. Wide-screen is supported and with todays systems you can play the game in it's full glory.

Two expansion packs were released. Fist Alpha and Red Dawn.

The add-on offers a single player campaign, new maps and new multiplayer game types. As far as the new weapons are concerned, we can mention the M-14 gun, Claymore mines or the Russian machine gun named Degtarev DPL-2.

The second official add-on for Vietcong, which was released on the Internet for free and on several gaming magazines throughout Europe. Containing one new single player mission, Vietcong Red Dawn features an all-new "cooperative (COOP)" experience in the multiplayer mode of the game, in which the player takes the role of a Vietcong unit, fighting through completely new multiplayer maps. This add-on was developed in the spare time of our employees, and was published in March 2005.

Vietcong: Purple Haze was a pack released that combined Vietcong with Fist Alpha.

The Multiplay modes are quite diverse. The usual Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Last Man Standing modes are there, there are a couple of varieties of Capture the Flag, an objective style gametype called Assault Team Game where both teams have different objectives and Co-op where it's a squad of humans on a mission verses the game!


I've set up three basic servers:

• Vietcong
• Vietcong Fist Alpha
• Vietcong Red Dawn


Initially I want to look at the co-op mode then progress from there.

There are two FPS games that I consider the best ever and that is COD1 and Vietcong1. The atmosphere, tension and realism is unnerving and the SPlayer campaign is long.

I've lost my original CD's but have another copy on mail order already!

I found the first Vietcong the best FPS I have ever played, The storyline was great and the gameplay was tense.

I bought Vietcong on a whim at an EB games sale and enjoyed everyminute of it. One of the first FPS games I thought was beautiful graphics wise. That battle on the hill at night (and possibly in the rain) remians one of my fav gaming moments and one of the most intense fights, second only to Pavlov's house in COD1. I ahve the disks somewhere but god knows where i put them.....

Would still class this as one of the best FPS games, when it was not ruined by hackers/cheats in the multiplayer mode.

I actually preferred VC2, but it did not get the following. The developers were forced to put in vehicles by the publishers, and just lagged the multiplayer servers. Most multiplayer server rules at the time were no rockets and vehicles were turned off, which made for a more competitve game. Some people didn't like the rule. Only about 4 aussie clans ever got into this game, and a very brief 2x2 death match ladder was run.

Vietcong in it's hey days 3-4 years ago had many clans and had 3 seasons of ladders run by Auscong, with half a dozen aussie servers at the time.

Haven't played in over a year, the clan wars were what really added to this game.. The game is no longer supported and the anti-cheat does not work, and with so many publicly available cheats, I just wouldn't play multiplayer any more.

Single-player is good and many custom maps are available to download to play co-op mode on. Still good for a LAN party or start a server for a group of friends you know and trust.

The server runs HradBa v206 which still catches quite a lot.
(three in the first 10 minutes of a game last time i fired up the server!)

A lot of the online servers don't run it which is crazy. I've also seen a lot that don't run the latest version (206). The latest patch installs v200 and the expansions will give you v202.

I paid $37 for the game this week and I'm now patching. Loaded up the main menu and heard that guitar music I'd forgotten long ago and when "oh man - this roxs!"
