Default BF news - upcoming BF2 & BF2142 map and patches

13-March-09

Quote:
Reading the feedback you guys give us in the gaming forums, it’s been clear to us that the game was lacking in a tight infantry map with the PLA army involved. So we set out to create a map with that in mind and this is the result of that. That map, which we have called Operation Blue Pearl, will appear in the upcoming Battlefield 2 Update 1.50 and Battlefield 2142 Update 1.51.

I was starting to think the v1.5 BF2 patch was a myth
I also thought the v1.5 BF2142 patch was the final version.
Happy Times ahead for Battlefield fans!

We over at the 2142 Division are really looking forward to this. Having maps with features never used before in the BF series.

Only time will tell on release date

Battlefield 2 v1.50 Beta Released

The beta for testing the new 1.50 update for Battlefield 2 is now available for everyone who want to help out and test the new patch. It contains a new map, Operation Blue Pearl, along with a number of security updates.

The beta will be running for at least a couple of weeks, to give the developers enough time to gather feedback from the beta testers (and hopefully make changes if that’s needed). Feedback is welcome on the EA forums : http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/b...feed-back.html.

The current list of changes can be seen below. A deeper explanation on design choices made for the new map have been posted here on Battlefield.com, and screenshots can be viewed here.

Download the Beta at Fileplay.net

============
Battlefield 2 Update v1.50
============

FEATURES
- Additional support for Windows Vista.
- Added Highway Tampa as a required map.
- Added a new map called Operation Blue Pearl.
- Added support for Widescreen resolutions <<< FINALLY! (NED)
- Added support for the Novint Falcon controller - http://www.novint.com

GAMEPLAY TWEAKS
- Changes made to both the J10 and F35B to make them more balanced. Please note that the J10 is a superior dogfighter to the F35B and as such these two aircraft will never be equally matched.
- AA targeting tweaked to make it more effective.
- Added checks to prevent "runway grieving".
- Various changes made to prevent cheating.
- Tweaked the hit detection, hits will be more accurate to the model
- Increased the time to go prone after jumping from 0.3 seconds to 0.7 seconds <<< SHOULD JUST FORCE TO GO THROUGH CROUCH MOVEMENT FIRST LIKE IN ETQW (NED)
- Fixed G36E HUD during sprinting to match other weapons.

SPECIAL THANKS
- Special thanks to Blackbird at the TV2 community www.battle.no

Battlefield 2 Update v1.50 Beta 2 launched

Thanks to everyone on the Battlefield forums that have taken part in Battlefield 2 Beta 1. We have taken a lot of feedback and made more fixes to come up with Beta 2. Bjorn has made modifications to Operation Blue Pearl so be sure to give your feedback on the new layouts HERE.

Since Beta 1 this is what we have changed, updated and fixed:

• Consensus to revert to 0.3 second delay between jump and prone - Fixed <<< O M F G !!! BOOOO INST-PRONE NOOBS (NED)
• Mouse wheel acceleration on jeeps and APC’s - In Test
• Mouse wheel acceleration on parachutes - In Test
• Falcon controller prevents joystick controls being assigned to work especially on jets and helicopters. Falcon always acts as primary controller for pitch and roll. Resets to Falcon at the start of every round. - Fixed
• The jets on Highway Tampa were replaced with attack choppers in 1.50 - Fixed, Highway Tampa is now as it was in 1.41
• The graphics for Highway Tampa are the same as Mashtuur City on create a local match in the menu and load screen. - Fixed
• Picking up the kit of a player who disconnected causes crashes - In Test
• Audio settings do not always save after clicking APPLY - Fixed
• Registry Version remains at 1.4 after Update 1.5 is installed - Fixed
• BF2OpenAL.dll was version 1.1.1.0 - Fixed - Updated to version 2.1.8.1
• ch_gas_station collision mesh on Dragon Valley was inconsistent with other gas station buildings - Fixed
• MEC artillery piece on Operation Clean Sweep changes to the USMC's control when they capture the Airfield flag - Fixed
• Challenger2 HUD icon was incorrect showing M1A2 HUD icon instead - Fixed
• Road to Jalalabad has PLA FAV spawn in place of a MEC FAV - Fixed
• Dragon Valley Chinese artillery used default respawn time instead of 360 seconds as other artillery uses - Fixed
• Bizon (PP-19) had no delay time after weapon switch - Fixed (this now has a delay of 0.666)
• F35B had a lock delay of 1.5 compared to 1 second lock delay of other aircraft - Fixed
• Incorrect camo Humvee was being spawned in Taraba Quarry - Fixed
• UH-60 (Black Hawk) guns had 0.25 splash damage setting, down from 3 making it difficult to hit infantry. - Fixed (this is now set to 1.5 to improve the UH-60's usefulness while not allowing it to dominate)
• It was impossible to pass a claymore unless an engineer disarmed it first. - Fixed (players can now go prone to pass the claymore)
• Allow BF2.exe to use more than 2Gb RAM on machines that support it - Fixed

You can also track what we are doing directly on the Battlefield forums HERE.

Battlefield 2 v1.50 Beta 2 is available from more mirror sites and ranked server providers. Of course if you don't want to find it from your local RSP you can download it from Fileplay.net - HERE.

Every patch for BF2 had me hoping the game would be "fixed". Unfortunately, the engine and netcode (especially) seem to be fundamentally flawed - no patch can fix the shiz going on in BF2 lol
Also, BF2 patches have a proven track record of introducing new problems.
Having said all that I will definitely keep my eye on player feedback; never know, I may even re-install

ahh bullshit. The prone feature is sooo damn handy!

I'm glad they're doing the beta testing on BF2.... This way when it's fully released, BF2142 will just receive a full patch as they work on the same engine anyway

Took them long enough to fix this problem.

Looks like DICE are trying to sort out "office politics".

Unfortunately I can't tell you what the office politcis decision is about but it is worth the slight extra delay. There won't be another public Beta of this version, instead we will do a closed Beta to get a faster turn around and is basically to make sure things are still OK like the connection to servers issue.

You will need to have Battlefield 2 installed to version 1.41. We won't support installing over a previous 1.50 Beta version (it might work without issue but it might not so to be safe install over 1.41) so feel free to uninstall/delete that version.
