Default R.I.P Duke Nukem Forever.

It's been one of the longest running jokes of the PC gaming world for the last 11-12 years but it looks like it could all be finally over for DNF because the developer, 3D realms has shut down. Even though it's been the butt of many a joke I always hoped that it would actually come out one day .

Just caught this on my morning read of shacknews and jumped in here to post about it.

It's a crying shame really. Duke is still perhaps one of the biggest cult icons to come form the gaming world only being overshadowed by the likes of Mario, it's sad that they couldn't do more with it.

It's weird that they posted maybe a month ago about how the project was still on track. I guess you need to actually release games to make money.

I have a feeling that Duke will rise from the ashes still... as Drac said he is a cult gaming icon that won't stay buried for long, someone else will pick it up hopefully.

It is sad but I doubt it's the last we will see of the duke, someone else is bound to pick up the IP and in the long run it might be better for gamers as we will actually see some games released with him in

Woha, that's like one of those "stranger than fiction" stories, almost too bizarre to be made up.

I remember playing Duke3D with my mates over a LAN, and honestly, there's not been a game that's brought more laughter and more pure enjoyment since.

It was released at the same(ish) time as Doom and Quake (the latter being it's peer) and people tended to be Quake players, or Duke players. Both were about as hard and challenging as each other, but where one was dark and brooding, trying to scare you, the other was slapstick, colourful and took the piss out of itself.

Today we see new shooters released onto the market, and they are either war sims or paranormal based games. I would LOVE to have seen DukeForever. I really think it is something that the gaming industry today needs - an injection of humor and fun. Seems to have been forgotten in the quest for better graphics and bigger guns.

I want shrink rays and holographs, and by-god I want jetpacks!!!

It will be,

Let's hope it is a company that like Bethesad who took a cult classic like Fallout turned it into a horrible FPS, and marketed it to Xbox children under the guise 'For the fans'

Back on topic.

Favourite was duke nukem two
