Default Far Cry 2 v1.03 patch released

PATCH v1.03

The console update was released a few months ago so many have been waiting for this. There are some nice things with this patch. There are updates for singleplayer, multiplayer and dedicated server setup.

Highlights for me:
• SP: random crashing and camera issues fixed
• MP: show VIP on scoreboard (for your team only)
• MP: fix client being disconnected from the host randomly and not being able to see it after that
• MP: addd a "hardcore mode" that will provide a new damage model where all weapons do much more damage
• DS: added remote control
• DS: reduced approximately 80% of CPU usage

I'll give this update a good testing over the next week or two.
I'll hopefully have my server back online this weekend finally
Contact me if you're interested in testing all this out!

-will post details if this happens-

* The game will auto update if you start it.
* Manual .exe file - here -
* Steam News - here -

Please post your feedback and thoughts!
more info soon..

my feedback

GOOD
• disk check removed *THANK YOU UBISOFT*
• dedicated server now doesn't use 40% CPU when idle (sits on 0)

BAD
• still unable to custom bind mousewheel up/down
• still have unresponsive mouse control in the menu
• multiplay login still buggy (sometimes unable to log back in if you logout and don't restart game)
• browser ping display still broken

A multiplayer Server? Sounds good I tried playing a few games online but tardish behaviour drove me away.

So have they fixed the dysfunctional multiplayer menus?

Or is it still next to impossible to find a server?

I find a system such as COD4 to be functional.

A list of servers comes up and you choose the one you want to play on.

In FC2 you have to go through about 6 pages before you can even get a list. If you click on one of the "quick" join options the game searches for ages then connects you to an empty server. When a game finishes instead of sending you back to the server list it keeps loading screens for about 60 seconds before it then drops you out of the server. Then when you do finnaly find a server, you have to sit in a lobby for god knows how long till the little kids all press the ready button. I like to spend my free time PLAYING games, not sitting in te game menus.

Why do Ubisoft insist on this system when there are so many other games using better ones?

It's a console thing.

piemole, since the initial release of FC2 the server browser has at least improved. You can now direct connect via IP and filter the browser. The browser is far from fixed though, eg. the ping display is still broken.

Gone are the days of a simple browser that just worked. I wish these new games all had browser setups like the Quake3 engine games had... Enemy Territory, Soldier of Fortune 2 etc etc. Maybe it just the complexity of these new engine and they haven't worked out yet how to emulate what used to work.

===

The best thing about this new patch is they have removed the disk ckeck so no more DVD required to play and the dedicated server setup is now a LOT better with its resources. Further testing of this patch soon.

Here's a list of the MP weapons balancing with v1.03

- Made most weapons slightly more accurate.
- Slightly extended length of the short-range damage category for most weapons.
- Reduced the damage of all sniper weapons.
- Reduced the damage of the MGL-140 grenades.
- Reduced the damage of the M79 grenades.
- Reduced the damage of the IED.
- Reduced damage stim of the flamethrower by 1 step.
- Added hardcore mode in the Advanced Options page. Weapons will do more damage and enemy names will be hidden after the invincibility period.
