Default Transformers 2 (3rd person) *JUN-09*

I didn't realise this game might have an FPS angle, I would have just called it an action game but after seeing the video (checkout the HD version at linky below) of multiplayer in action It sort of "felt" like a take on an FPS title multiplayer being added to the game.

Transformers 2, which they confirmed at the end as hitting shelves for June 23rd, has an Autobots vs Decepticons multiplayer game. The DCs can fly around and tend to be larger while the AB's are smaller and harder to hit, faster on the ground. I have to say that this sounds very unbalanced. If complete nubs are playing the decepticons then sure the autobots will play well, but if the decepticons have people that can aim well they're bigger, tougher, and can fly... I'm hearing balance alarm bells going off like crazy. I like what they're doing with this but I don't think the game is translating from movies to multiplayer in a very friendly manner.

Third-Person action this one. The flow of the game looks good and some nice effects as well.

Oh right, I always forget "first-third" person thing. I just think "rpg, action, or shooter" lol.

I won't bother with this game personally. I have the first one, and didn't think much of it. Appeals more to the younger generation than anything else

I like the idea of it, but I found the controls in the first one (in the demo that I played) clunky and with poor responsiveness.

The multiplayer looks kinda fun, but really walled-in and somewhat less dynamic and slower than I thought it would be. I guess they have time constraints though. I watched a few of the other vidoes of the single player parts and it seems they're doing the typical movie-to-game exercise of "oh, this and that happened in the movie so lets strap on generic-gameplay-mechanic here".

IMO it's not a game, just an exercise in interactivity. So called "games" that follow movie plots almost always suck because they're forced to design ~towards~ than end. The whole "problem" and "solution" approach to design doesn't really work for games. They've ended up designing a bunch of tricks to splice interactivity into a linear sequence of events. What they ought to be doing is actually Designing a game, wholly and completely to be nothing but a game, but drawing from the transformers universe.

The irony of which, is I now look at movies and say "they probably did this scene so they could add it to the movie-game"
