Default A Brief History of Windows Gaming

Feature: A Brief History of Windows Gaming - bigdownload.com

Windows 7 has been released. Big Download takes a look back at previous versions of Microsoft Windows and follows the long (sometimes painful) evolution of PC gaming.

What shooters in the list have YOU played, and on what OS

lol windows 7 is just Vista XP3!
seriously, its running off the same kernels!!
they just named it windows 7 because of the bad publicity associated with windows vista.

anyways, no way im gonna pay for they something they should have done right the first time.

but as for the games...
Doom was prolly the first fps i've ever played and it was on dos
played strategies and rpgs for a few years on 95 and 98 before i discovered C&C Renegade which i played on winME then XP
once renegade died down to the point where there were only a few hundred players worldwide, i switched to BF2142 on XP, still playing that occasionally even now, but on vista
then theres all the shooters i play on console and that list just doesnt end.

I think I was one of the few people who used WinME and loved it! I never had an issue with it. I remember it had more features than 98 and looked better as well. Unreal was the first game I played on WinME and is still one of my all time favourite games! The only reason I initially went to WinXP was because WinME couldn't use more than 512MB of RAM.

I'm currently using WinXP-Pro and looking at going to Win7 next year sometime. I'll always have a WinXP drive on my comp as some games I play don't like Vista and Win7

Vietcong doesn't like Vista+ due to it not liking DirectX 10 which causes random crashing and the anti-cheat system HradBa thinks DirectX10 is a hack and gives a false-positive Code 149 (Direct3D altering) kick.

Far Cry 2 apparently won't currently work drama-free on Win7

well im using win7 on my laptop now and dont have any problems. then again, i havent really played any high end games on my laptop, the high requirement game on it atm is Diablo2. doesnt work unless i put it into compatibility mode for WinXp SP2 and run as admin, which i assume would work for most games with compatibility issues.
as i said earlier, my only problem with Win7 is that its just Vista with less flaws, and since i paid the full marked up price for Vista buying it from the MS website, i refuse to pay the same amount again for the updated version of it.
