Default SWAT 4 realism mod worth a try?

S.S.F. Realism Mod 1.1

Have a read through the list of changes.

It does one thing that's not mentioned - you don't have to wait for a bad guy to raise his weapon before shooting him. If he is holding a weapon, he's considered dangerous. You can take him out immediately after issuing compliance. Even if his gun is hidden.

This is to avoid the unreasonable "unlawful use of force" penalty that so many players despise.

Read through the realism settings and let me know if it's worth trying on-line sometime. I dare say it will alter gameplay considerably. Maybe for the worse - who knows.

I run realism mods/modes on my SOF2, DOOM3 and MOHH: Breakthrough servers. A well written realism mod is well worth playing! - imo.

Sounds like it would be well worth giving this a go Fox. Especially for Father if the reasonable force problems are solved . The speed up of weapons changes sounds good to me also as at the moment it is unreasonably slow especially going form primary to secondary. Definitely sounds interesting.

I've installed it and here are some observations in no order :-

The install left my career intact. I'm not sure if an uninstall will do the same but I suspect it will be fine.

In the loadout screen, some icon/weapon graphics have changed. The HK MP5 now says HK but it looks like it's been painted with paintbrush. Some other weapons display the manufacturer in the corner.

It might be just me but the "run" setting is much faster. You just move quicker. Maybe it's just me. Crouch and walk are the same.

The bad guys are far more likely to shoot hostages - and I mean FAR more likely. I lost two hostages in one round. A repeat of the mission (Diamond) and I lost another hostage. This makes the career harder in this respect.

The in-game graphics are the same. No observable difference.

The incapacitated moan and twitch a lot more.

It seems my .45 does less damage than before. I'd be pumping endless rounds into the legs and arms and they won't go down. This means I now use auto instead of semi-automatic fire and I go through more ammo. Not a bad thing.

Bad guys surrendor less often and run more often. Not a bad thing.

I didn't draw a single "unauthorised use of force". The readme says the rules are simple. If they hold a gun - you shoot them. This can be abused but I know the serious TOG'ers wouldn't do that intentionally. It means you can play by your own rules of engagement. If someone rushes you with an AK47 - you just plug him. You don't wait for him to run up to point blank range and shoot you in the chest. This also means you survive longer. You do not need to wait till the last moment before blowing away a bad guy. I'm unclear if you need to issue compliance. I suspect not. Naturally, for maximum points, you want to arrest these people so issuing compliance remains an important part of the game.

It seems the stingers have a large "blast radius". I found myself getting stunk far more often than I'm use to.

Switching weapons is quicker. Important for those bang and clears.

Optiwand has a larger field of view.

AI SWAT officers will move past compliant hostages and continue to clear a room instead of stopping and guarding the unarmed hostage. Pretty sweet.

Overall opinion.

KICK-ASS

I can't see any negative aspect to this mod. I won't un-install it. I'll be leaving it on - for no reason other than the "unauthorised use of force" has been turned down dramatically.

If I host SWAT on a Tuesday in two weeks time - it will be with this mod turned on.

I'm really loving the extra effect stingers and gas has. You can pop a gas just inside a door and it will affect the whole room - just as it should. You don't have to worry about AI not placing a throw just right. Pretty SWEET!

And the stingers - boy do they sting with this mod!!

And FYI - the stingers and bangers are both line-of-sight weapons. That means the bad guy needs to be able to see the banger for it to affect them. They don't need to see the stinger to be stung of course.

I threw a banger into a corner behind some furniture and looked in it's general direction and the banger didn't affect me as it was behind a mouldy couch. I did the same thing with the stinger. I was literally about 6 feet away from it but the couch absorbed the blow.

From now on - if there is furniture in the room, I'm using the gas.
