Well my partner in crime is on holidays for a month and we always play together, so I'm hoping they'll fix up the pricing error and maybe rip that securom out from the steam version over that time.

Was annoyed, but we already knew 2K deliberately discriminate against Australians and were blatantly ripping us off - as with Jig, figured I might be able to let it slip for USD$3 or so - but this...

My question is, has the "1.1.0" ninja patch to the main game retroactively added SecuROM even if you don't have the DLC?

Seriously... When the Aussie dollar becomes worth more than the US dollar (as it's projected to do within a year) are we still going to be being charged more than the yanks?

Yeah three bucks is sfa, but it's the principle...

And anyone know what the patch today was about? I see no update info for 9/10 December update. It wasn't a small one either.

The patch was probably just a maintenance update to make sure the DLC was compatible, or something like that =p

While I can neither confirm nor deny what the patch was specifically. A patch which revolved around fixing a few bugs (in particular reference to multiplayer and connections) was expected out around the time the DLC was released. This may have been what that was.

Given the way we've been screwed over so far (from originally Steam giving Australians the censored version, to the AU price increase to rip us off, to charging AU more than US for the DLC, to including SecuROM if you buy the DLC), forgive me guys if I'm a little sceptical of any positive/optimistic thoughts regarding 2K or Gearbox.

I'm just glad I didn't originally bend and buy Bioshock - I definitely won't be getting Bioshock 2.

I very much doubt that they'd add SecuROM into the original, it'd be a bit of a nightmare to manage, and even 2k would have to fear that backlash.

They'll lose a crapload of sales, but 2k won't care as they're only after console sales anyway.

Well, I for one will be boycotting 2k released stuff until they wise up on DRM - like I did with EA.

When Spore's people first found out about the 5 installs and such there was it's inevitible backlash. There was a response. Over time you'd get them back, like points on your driving license. The DRM did not help against piracy. The opposite as Spore became the most downloaded game out there.
Why can't they just listen to Wil Whedon and just stop being Dicks.

Gamers understand these facts, publisher's Corporate Executives that make the decisions don't. When you think about it really, it doesn't make much sense to have people in charge that don't really know whats going on in the world. But then, just look at our politicians!

I honestly don't believe that 2K would "fear" any backlash - charging AU more than what people overseas are paying is proof enough (even in the 2K forum, their community manager was trying to preach to AU customers and tell us what is/is not standard in our market - as if we wouldn't know better for ourselves); as you noted above, they just don't/won't care because they're not interested in the PC market anyway.

Yes, I'm mad.
