Default [Borderlands] Killing Crawmerax

Well we are all probably aware that sirens are Crawmerax-killing machines, but other classes shouldn't give up!

Here's a vid of Mord dealing out some death:

I'm not sure I agree with everything he's posted - not that it can't work, just that it won't work for everyone (as each person's play style is different). I do agree that the Orion is the natural enemy of the maggots, but damn those enemies were moving a hell of a lot slower than I remember...

I think he's using the Sniper class mod mainly for that sniper rifle ammo regen - without it, forget about running around using that Penetrator...

I think I've actually got (unless I've given it away?) a Liquid Penetrator with shock effect that I'll have to compare to my Orion and see which can deliver a greater DPS.

The best I've managed solo so far is to take out three of the minions before being wiped out (and in that case, it was a combination of Chimera and Orion dishing out most of the damage). Even the "glitch spot" of which he speaks is no guarantee of success.

I think the suggestion of getting the three minions being armored is a good one. Much less lethal than the other two.

Did you see the 60 second kill at the bottom of the post?

Absolutely.

Yup, though some of that is due to the combination of weapons/mods he has, some is due to plain luck (ie., the PRNG).

He's lucky he didn't get the glitch where you end up inside the maggots and consequently there's no hit detection from your firing. That killed me countless times.

Fossil , I and another mate have hit Crawmerax in the last week (3play). Unfortunately , I'm the siren of the group and happen to be the lowest skill level (in terms of aim and movement etc) and my weapons are also a little bit under the others.
We couldn't do it - the frustration and language level got to the point where we just decided to have a rest, research and will try again this weekend. The difficulty is disproportional to the other challenges we've met in the game and the dlc's.
No doubt we are also trying it on in single player - I tried the glitch point to the left got Craw down to 5% got over confident and bobbed up and died within seconds - serves me right!.
You've gotta think that some of the youtubers out there have some element of bs in them after trying to beat this dude yourself countless times.

The weapon drops in this dlc have been a little disappointing too.

We will prevail in the end though!

Nav, Jig and I have done it as a group-of-three, but the key for us was Jig (the siren) staying alive up the top (even if just hiding, to keep Crawmerax from resetting and forcing us to start all over again) whilst Nav and I just went through cycles of killing, being killed, riding up the elevator - rinse, repeat (I think Nav and I each lost something in the area of $100 million dollars in New-U respawns that game).

I agree, some of the, "Oh, it's easy!" claims are either rubbish or rely heavily on the luck of the draw (such as being booted up on to the rocks rather than off the cliff); however, the fact that Jig as a siren can solo Crawmerax over and over and over proves that it can be done. Somehow.

When I fight Craw I tend to solo it but I also rely heavily on the luck factor of surviving the knock up on the rocks. If you can do this early it is an easier fight but you will probably die in the process. I did get 4 pearlescent weapon drops out of 10 battles so I consider it a good trade of all my cash lol.
