Not really a console player here either, i do have a PS3 but only use it to play games that i cant get on the PC like "Heavy Rain" (which was fantastic) and FF 13. Also im awful with a controller so prefere to play shooters with a mouse and keyboard

Robert Brockway over at Cracked has written hi-larious take on FO:NV.

6 Ways 'Fallout: New Vegas' Made Me a Worse Person

It's well worth a read.

How does this compare to Borderlands regarding being an FPS/RPG?

Havent played Borderlands but as I understand the two games a realistic comparison would be to say borderlands is an fps while fallout is an rpg.

I know they both have elements of each but fallout has many more rpg like elements, such as an expanded inventory system, crafting system, a moral compass that influences how different factions react and probably the most compelling difference... Fallout can be finished without killing anything.

I haven't played F:NV at all, but I think it'd be similar enough to F3 to comment. Borderlands is indeed a shooter, compared to Fallout's RPG. Fallout just happens to be from a first person perspective, but it's RPG through and through. Borderlands - it's shooter, with a very small degree of customisation giving it a slight RPG label.

The two have nothing in common other than their view perspective.

EDIT: Just realised this thread is in the FPS section... Really ought to be in the "Strategy, RPG & Other" forum me thinks.

I wrote a review over in the steam section if your interested Ned, its quite a while back and im on my second play through now but i feel it still stands

http://www.theoldergamers.com/forum/...ngs-given.html

As for how it compares with borderlands, they arent very simular. Fallout has much more rpg elements. It can also be played in third person as long as you dont mind the camera view.

As for it being simular to F3 spectre8 well lets just say its exactly the same but with a few tweaks here and there, new story line, new weapons and factions but thats about it.

Yeah, was my thoughts based on what I'd seen - which ironically is why I didn't pre-order it on Steam, as I thought it was another DLC But now that I know what it is, I want to buy it, but not at the stupidly overinflated price they have it listed for currently...

Maybe I'll pick it up soonish... if only I can curb my Minecraft addiction

I have played both.
I would say Borderlands is really a pure FPS with a very small element of RPG.
Although you can buy guns etc in borderlands I wouldn't say its a RPG.

Fallout for the win I say.
