Default TOG ARMA2-OA server coming soon..

Once a non-beta patch windows dedicated server binary is available I'll set us up an TOG ARMA2-OA server. The next update, v1.53, will have the necessary files for me to host.

SOURCE ARMA 2 - Windows Dedicated server - build 1.07.71951 - Bohemia Interactive Forums
SOURCE Official ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead Steam FAQ - Steam Users' Forums

Server set up:

• private use for TOG members and TOG friends
• default ARMA 2: Aperation Arrowhead ie. no mods or any custom content installed (initially)
• BattlEye Anti-Cheat enabled

• For greater Immersion and intensity I intend to set the difficulty level somewhere between Veteran and Expert. Pure expert settings would reduce the flow of the game due to game unfamiliararity for non-ARMA verteran/experts.

Here what I'm thinking..
(based off an ArmA 2 Server Difficulty Settings chart by the ZSU Group.)

friendlyTag - ON. Displays information on friendly units
enemyTag - OFF. Displays information on enemy units
autoSpot - OFF. will report enemy contacts automatically
map - OFF. Display friendlies and spotted enemies on map

hud - OFF. Shows leader's location and position in formation
hudWp - ON. Shows waypoints in HUD after they are ordered to you
hudWpPerm - OFF. Shows waypoints in HUD permanently
clockIndicator - ON. Shows clock indicator in HUD
vonID - ON. Show speaker's name when using in-game VOIP
hudGroupInfo - ON. Shows group member symbols at bottom of HUD
deathMessages - ON. Display message when a friendly is killed

weaponCursor - ON. Show weapon crosshairs
3rdPersonView - ON. Allow 3rd Person view

With regard to mods, there are plenty of modded servers around for us to use. The server will be kept (at least gameplay) default. I want to see what the default game has to offer before exploring the mods. Thoughts?

Custom co-op and missions I'm happy to upload.

Game Modes feedback:

Domination - link -
Warfare - link -
(More custom missions - here.)

Missions feedback:

Wrath of Allah - link -

Please discuss server settings and post up any custom missions you're interested in playing with fellow TOGers..

Allowing 3rd person would be a good idea. It makes driving easier and helps situational awareness. As long as you turn cross-hairs off, you will still have to look down your sights to shoot effectively.

Typically, a long term mission like Domination or Warfare is run the majority of the time on the server so that 1 or 2 people can play on the server and still have fun.
When a good number of people get on the server, that is when you break out the special co-op missions. The one that I have most recently played and enjoyed was "Wrath of Allah".

Are you planning on running the server on one of your local machines?

Turning off 3rd person will turn off a lot of members. I play both so I don't mind either way.

I didn't know it had 3rd person until I watched one of the official Arma tutorials on youtube.

The presenter there argued in favor of 3rd person giving you a better environmental awareness and I have to agree.

I only use 1st person now when I aiming. At the end of the day aiming for reality is great but we are still watching a 3D image on a 2D screen and in 1st person view you just don't have that view out of the corner of your eye as you would in RL.

3rd person is what allows for that loss of vision that 1st person has to be somewhat compensated for. And in this game environmental awareness is oh so critical.
I see 3rd person as a must have feature.

Aim crosshairs I'm on the fence bout, the game doesn't allow for shooting from the hip anway even with crosshairs but you just can't project a RL aim onto a monitor without some sort of visual indication. Having said that it Red Orchestra worked well without the crosshairs but it did still have a lot more run and gun approach then Arma to compensate.

I hardly ever use 3rd person - but I think it's a good thing to have enabled. It's there as an option for those who want it - and doesn't ruin the immersion for those who don't use it at all

Either way, looking forward to it

If we were doing PvP then you have to be fairly consistent on settings but I don't think anyone is suggesting that. +1 for what Spec says - the bots aren't gunna care if we use 3rd or 1st person.

Additionally - I know of a clan server that is not being used on Saturday nights. If there is interest then I can talk to them about us leasing this server for just one night a week. We couldn't do anything we liked with it but we could have some private missions happening and that my friends is a whole new level of awesomeness.

Both. A test server running from my home DSL connection and the main one hosted in a data center.

I haven't looked at the various game modes yet. Most I believe are custom made. There will be tested first on the home server.
(points noted in top post)
