I live with two Holocaust survivors and have no problem playing a German soldier in Call of Duty. It's a game mate.

Too close to home?? Letting people play both sides of a game? What if you're an Afghani wanting some good game time? Being forced to play US killing your own people might seem a little on the wrong side of moral righteousness...

But it's still just a game.

I played Desert Combat for years, and not once did I feel bad about playing as an Iraqi (even those looking like Saddam!) killing my enemy. Didn't matter one iota that they were meant to be US troops - it's just a game.

If they don't offer the "other team" as being playable, I feel like I'm missing out on half the game Although - I did like the way America's Army ran things - as a player, you played as a US soldier, but appeared as a terrorist - and vice versa - very cool!

I have no issues with it either. What I do have issues is with the way the media is misleading people, using emotionally charged statements and basically making the readers mind up before he even got past the first paragraph.

ditto to what to Zee said - usual media hype - the "allies" and opfor in various guises have been in the games for years...when im playing opfor in cod im not thinking about what side im on - im just playing a game - i know what side im on. :P

EDIT: I just realised the controversy is probably in the single player element...just like MW2s airport terrorist scene - it would disturb me to play such as role in a single player mode and I'd therefore either opt out or quit the single player and stick to mp. The story line for me might hit too close to home. I've played the mp beta...as both marine and opfor and its no biggy for me on that side its just a vs b right...

I've been playing adversarial single and multiplayer FPS's for, wow, a freakin long time. The only game that I actually had a preference for was CS - only because I spent half of the time scrounging for an M4A1 as a terrorist.

I read this today and was appalled.
I have been incredibly dissapointed at what BS has been fed to the public recently in all forms off media. It seems that the standards of journalism has taken a dive.....

this is a poor attept to make Afganistan some sort of Sacred Cow.. we should have helped them when we could have..but we didn't.. so it is all F'd up now.

the media is just playing a Bully here, because they allow no discussion.. because it is just a game.. hurts no one.. unlike the one they are playing in Afganistan.

what is not being reported in the Media is that our friends are pulling out because they decided that not doing anything in Afganistan will cause less suffering to the Afgani's in the long run than if they stay.

oh.... they are not journalists, they are "Readers", they read a teleprompter, and make the perscribed facial inflections and repeat the daily talking points. all the TV Media Stations are owned by Corporations involved in the Military Industerial Complex... the same one Eisenhower warned us about.
