Default The Battlefield series

Hi fellow TOGs,

Have to admit that I came into the Battlefield series quite late - I love Battlefield 2 - it rawks my world.

To complete the collection, I have just purchased BF1942 and BF-Vietnam (they were cheap!). As I need to reformat/re-install my PC, I haven't installed these games yet.

Just a few questions to the Battlefield die-hards:
*) What can I expect? (I am too lazy to trawl through the BF42/V forums)
*) Your thoughts on the BF series?
*) Which BF game has given you the most satisfaction?

Hey Tiger,

It really depends on the type of warfare you like.
I for one have played all 3 BF games, and found the modern warefare aspect of BFV and BF2 pretty unsatisfying.

Therefore I am completely unbiased in recommending BF42 as your starting point
Pop over to our BF42 forum when your ready

If you do like the modern warefare, after loading BF42, throw on the DC mod on. Check the BF42 DC mod forum.

unbiased Thanks guys

Well, I will be spending this Sunday doing the major reformat/reinstall so after another week or so, I should have a better picture on the whole Battlefield series.

Time will tell

Glad I came across this thread. I've been debating on BF42 & BFV. BF2 just about consumes my every waking moment...okay maybe not that bad, but nothing beats some good ol' fashioned dogfighting. I'll be picking up BF42 soon. Hell, I shoulda known there would still be TOG'ers playing both of these...

I love BF42 - Played competitively with TOG.
BFVietnam - never had the paper/scissors/rock formula quite right/balanced
BF2 - the 'desert storm'/modern era thing is not for me and the stat tracking is a real turn off.

Played BF42 and liked it. Then added the DC (Desert Combat) DCF (+Final) and DCX (+Extended) and had a total blast with my buds. I found the mods quite enjoyable as they had more weapons and vehicles (choppers-yay!) to play with, but to each their own. If you like the original era better, you may want to try the BattleGroup 42 mod which adds a bunch of vehicles and maps to the game.
As to BF Vietnam, tried it and was unimpressed. Enjoyable, yes, just not enough to hold me.

Never played 42 or the new BF2 but I did play BFVbriefly, and while cool, it didn't hold my attention.

Loved them all. Join up all the teams and play in them when you can. You will find DC and BFV very simple and basic compared to BF2 plus all weapons are like sniper rifles they are so accurate. 1942 is awesome but very very slow and the weapons suck a big one compared but at least spamage is reduced as you have to be dead on to kill someone much like BF2. Tanks in 1942 are the best.

Good thread

I also have been wondering what the series is like, the only online game I play is CS:S (which I love to death) occasionally DOD & have also recently played around with AA - which I found to be quite a slow game.

Still not sure if I will go BF2 & prob BFV or possibly check out COD2

Happy gaming all
