New Game from creator of WING COMMANDER series called Squadron 42: Star Citizen
G'day
It appears that the guy behind the whole Wing Commander series of games back in the 1990s that a lot of people remember fondly is back creating a new game. There is several trailers floating around of it but here is a link to an extended version of one. SQUADRON 42: STAR CITIZEN Definitly got me interested considering how many hours I sunk into the Wing Commander series and its spinoff Privateer. Regards, B |
The crowd funding is up and running now, no totals as yet since their site got slammed earlier today but I'm already considering whether I want to toss in $250 or $500.
Roberts Space Industries - Star Citizen Looks amazing and if Roberts manages to fully realise his ambitions for it I think it will be one hell of a ride. |
I'll probably throw $250 their way next weekend as well. Would love to see the WC universe resurrected in another game

looks to be 2 years away, but the hybrid-model (single-player/quasi-MMO) looks interesting with public/private servers and extensive modding. needless to say, the genre could use something like this...perhaps minus the FMV this time, as nostalgic as it may seem ;)
|
The FMV was only cool because of the somewhat notable actors involved, and how cheesy the writing was. It was like an 80s scifi with 1990s era production values - so wrong yet so right for the target audience. I don't think you could capture that correctly in a modern game.

The video looks great!

Looks wicked. I sank more hours into Freelancer than I care to think about so I'm hoping he goes more that way than full on WC
|
I'll be buying this... |
I think I just had a brick.
He did an AMA today http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...ing_commander/ Shamelessly stolen from said link.

Well, i just pledged to the kickstarter. I haven't seen a good space sim for a very long time. X-wing, tie-fighter, descent freespace... never really got into the wing commander series.\
