I know it's OFN but anyway..............was out at Rasputin's place today and he was playing a bit of Q4 so I downloaded the demo tonight and it looks very nice indeed!!!! graphic details are sweet!!!! first time I've seen it

if only they'd kept it the same as quake3. Quake 4 is slower in movement and the rockets are slower too ;(
Plus the FPS and the game clock is capped at 60 fps. Can't believe they capped it at 60. Should be at least 85. Being capped at 60 means the game never looks completely smooth like quake3 does. I looked forward to this game for years. And now i'm still playing quake3 freezetag. sigh.

I was under the impression that the 60fps cappage was something to do with the Doom3 physics engine???

I really love the graphics though. Shame the multiplayer is a bit samey

love the single player side much better than doom 3 but multiplayer suxs but i here there are fixes coming !!!!

I enjoyed SP on Doom3 better, but Q4 was only a little behind it.
However, I enjoyed it pretty much, certainly worth the $60.00 I paid.

Correct. If the game doesn't feel smooth it's not the 60 frames that's doing it.
Uncapped frames can actually cause unevenness even with the Quake3 engine (but especially with the Doom3 engine)

If the game isn't smooth then it's upgrade time!


btw I have a couple of Q4 servers set up with an Instagib mod (different to the one running on GA - better imo) and a mod that enables SP weapon stats in the MP arena if anyone wants a run around

I'm actually working on a mod myself that includes the SP weapon stats and changes the announcers voice to the UT2004 female announcer.

im getting a constant 60 fps in quake4 at my current settings. But 60 fps isn't silky smooth for my eyes. I know TV is 25 or 30 fps (depending on ntsc or pal) but it's frames are blurred and interlaced, so it appears smooth.
if 60 fps was as fast as the human eye could see we'd be running our CRT monitors at 60 hz instead of 75 - 85 - 100 -120 etc.
Bah, before I get too riled up I just want to say, I can tell the difference because i play a lot of quake 1 2 3 and quake 4 just doesnt look as silky smooth when capped at 60 fps. I'm not the only one that thinks so....

21" crt @ 85 hz here.
hope someone with C++ knowledge can make a mod to increase the server and client Game Tick Rate. Hmm. If the game tick rate can be modified in the config in single player mode ( like the guy from Atomic did) maybe the server tick rate can be increased in the server cfg file.
