Even though he was a Nazi (not an actual member of the party), the allies still respected and admired him very much. He was very critical of Hitler’s leadership during his time as chief of all German armies from the Netherlands to the Loire River
He was given the impossible task of stopping the allied assault on Normandy's beaches then passed away after being implicated in a plot to remove Hitler.
The ABC has some good WW2 doco in color last night. Really good stuff. Nothing beats Discovery and History channel though
