Default FPS newbie (just bought FEAR)

Ok. I just recently upgraded my system and wanted a game to see what it could handle.

So I just bought FEAR. All I can say is just WOW. What a great game.

Was wondering if any other TOG'rs play regularly.

Also been trying my hand at the mp aspect of it. (always played single player fps and not many at that) and seem to only do so so. I check the score and seem to be about mid to bottom of the charts all the time.

It seems I do ok but I also see others in game that when I meet up with them they are jumping and ducking all over the place while still getting a head shot on me.

So any tips for a newbie Like a certain playstyle or keyboard/mouse setup. Or do I just need alot of practice. Because right now there is no way my fingers are agile or quick enought to hit everything I need when I need to.

Thanks for the help, and maybe will see some of you in the game.

Practise and get online with some other guys who play FEAR. I think Neddie and co do? You shoul dget their XFIRE addresses and you'll be able to hook up with them and talk on venti and they will give you hints tips etc

Get the new patch out 1.03

http://games.internode.on.net/?page=...ledetails=1919

he new update will include the introduction of the ‘PunkBuster’ anti-cheat software, a vote kick option that allows players to be removed from multiplayer games for unsporting behavior, and 3 new Multiplayer maps. This update follows the recent launch of the F.E.A.R. SDK (Software Development Kit) and stand-alone server software for both Linux and Win32.

I saw the patch posted yesterday as well. Glad they are introducing Punkbuster to MP. I recently bought FEAR myself and initially thought it wasn't as dark & creepy as reviews were making it out to be. I thought Doom 3 did a great job of creating tension & fear. Not from the constant monster ambushes (which got old), but the lighting, atmosphere created and realization that you are all alone (for the most part) on Mars.

Last night I gave FEAR and second go and was completely absorbed by it's atmosphere and tension created. I guess I didn't give it enough chance to build up. There were a couple of instances I wish I had FRAPS running in the background to get some sweet pics. Going to start doing that now, though..

F.E.A.R. is great fun.

Tips:

Use mouse-wheel up to select next weapon, mouse-wheel down to select next grenade.
Use middle mouse to throw grenade.

Learn the maps. Focus on where armour, health and good weapons are to be found.

Holster your weapon often to run around quickly. You may be seen, but you are a very hard target to hit this way. If you can't see them, and you don't know where they are, you are often better off legging it round to stop being snuck up upon. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled when doing this, and do not keep circling the same route.

Good ol' BigTabs, I swear to GAWD he knows something about everything (and I'm not saying that facetiously, he's a smaht cookie!) Except for when he's proving me wrong about something, then I hate him. :P (J/K! He never proves me wrong...well..okay he does...but still!)
