Default [UT2k4] Help a noOb - weapon preferences

Hi guys, you know how you can bind a key to 'Best Weapon' and you can select weapon preferences... what preferences do you guys use?? I'm working my way through the single-player missions at the moment.

Also, how do you guys select various weapons?? via numbers or a predifined order on your mousewheel?? I'm thinking of doing a bit of both. All I've done so far is bound the Link Gun to Middle Mouse for Onslaught.

The minigun and Flak Cannon are my favourites. I played the original Unreal and the Flak Cannon was my favourite then too :P

Is there a weapons training map/mod available?

I only have my HOME key bound for the link gun.
I havent changed my weapon preferences and just scroll with the mouse wheel for other weapons.
I'd have to say Rocket Launcher and Flak cannon for my 2 favourite weapons

This is one thing that could have been improved in UT2K4 (nothing's perfect ) ... I'd like gametype specific weapon preferences. Obviously in Onslaught the Link Gun and Avril are very important weapons but when playing DM you want different weapons. Priorities go Link, Avril, DM weapons then super weapons. Nothing worse than firing off a super weapon in your own face. I also drop the stupid green goo gun right down the list and promote the shock rifle up the list (very handy in Onslaught against vehicles). The rocket launcher gets bumped down a bit because I've blown myself up too many times after running out of ammo on my currently selected weapon.

When playing I usually select weapons with the mouse wheel (I hate how all games have wheel up as previous weapon and down as next weapon... makes no sense to me). I also know my Link Gun is only a press of "5" away.

DM I prefer flak cannon then rocket launcher (shock rifle is cool too)...

In Quake3 engine based games it's easy to just write up separate scripts for each gametype and with the press of one key just toggle between as many as you would like. For eg. you could have cfgs tweaked for Onslaught and cfgs for DM. Press a key and switch between them both. You can even make on-screen messages to tell you what you have changed to.

Has anyone heard of anything like this with the Unreal engine??
I'll spend a couple of hours tonight searching the net after my ET game.

I use a Nostromo n52 speedpad which allows me to bind most weapons to very easily accessible buttons. Now that I've got used to it I think I'd find it very hard to go back to a keyboard.

If you could "execute" an .ini file from the console command line then it'd be a piece of piss...

Does it have a tracking system like a mouse? I see it has a small gamepad thing on the right (is that a left-handed one in the image)?

Got enough buttons on the claw & a five button mouse.

*edit* sorry I should have linked to the claw for people who don't know it

Basically it replaces the keyboard, so you still use a mouse as normal. The main advantage is simply quick access to more buttons.
