So I'm on night shift and rambling. Thought I'd post up some stuff about my experience of switching to a non-TOG team. Hopefully I'm not in wax effigy in anyone's basement any more [1], so it should be safe now
One thing I've really noticed about joining MI is that they're a pretty tight bunch. Ok, maybe with a few exceptions

Like, most of us ghost on the IRC channel (stop by irc://irc.ausirc.net:6667/mi and say hi, btw!) and so there's usually someone there up for a game any particular day of the week.
Ends up you get a hell of a lot of practice, even if it's just facing off on a headshot server or something. I spent an hour getting pummelled by Exorsist on Battery the other day. Trust me, Battery one on one is an... interesting experience
I'm only improving slowly. End up playing a hell of a lot more aggressive nowadays. I used to sit at objectives and wait while everybody was off doing the rambo thing, but now I just get into as many firefights as possible

You die a lot, but it's good practice!
One thing I've been told is to play less medic. Sometimes you can be a bit dependent on auto-heal and all the packs... so I've started playing field op and engy a bit more now in practice.
Set positions on defence... this is something I sort of tried to do with TOG but it never really 'stuck'. In practices, get the same people used to doing the same tasks each time. I know it's hard with such a big team (specially when everyone wants to play engy, for some bizarre reason!) MI are pretty good at doing this, and it totally helps to know what your job is, where to go and where not to. Makes a huge difference.
Like, for example (this isn't a MI strat or anything, I'm just thinking aloud

) when we used to set up our Oasis defence, I'd be like 'defend north' or 'defend south' but we didn't know
exactly where we'd be. Whereas we could've done, like, engy on the light fixture, panzer at the crew-served, field op smoking the archway, medic at the CP, etc.
And then practiced it until it stuck
Ah well. It's nice to be playing on NZ times again, but I'm still totally up for pub games or pracs with the Aussie contingent if you need numbers or want to do some work in fireteams or whatever. IRC probably best way to get in touch, sometimes have MSN/Trillian on, don't use Xfire much these days.
[1] Except Fox's basement, but that's a different story altogether
