Default Borderlands unavailable on Steam?

Just went to try and purchase the fantastic game that is Borderlands, and got a message saying 'This item is currently unavailable in your region'.

Tried searching round forums/boards on steam/2k games, but there's no reason why this ain't working.

Anyone out in TOG land have any ideas?

P.S. Also looking to purchase a copy of Borderlands from anyone that has a spare copy in their 4 pack

Gotta love the Steam forums - always good for a laugh. Someone suggests maybe it's unavailable due to a classification review and then everyone's complaining about the OFLC and believing that's the reason. Or maybe it really is that 2K's caving into retailers complaining about the price point affecting their ability to shift stock. The conspiracy theories abound.

Me, I'm going for a configuration error on steam that'll be fixed when they get back to work on Monday. I've just no imagination do I.

No review announced by the CRB, so doubtful that's the case (especially since not just "anyone" can request a review).

I thought I read somewhere about stores selling out and not being able to obtain more stock - maybe that was overseas...

Given everything else that has happened with Borderlands, Steam and the Australian region, it wouldn't surprise me.

If so, very poor form. It's not like it's the first (nor will it be the last) game to be made available on Steam at less than we're being gouged at retail (yes I realise honest, hard-working retailers have overheads to meet - but let's be honest, at the comparative prices we're being charged it's still gouging).

My bet they just fudged it up, they had it as a separate version for some reason even though it was physically the same. They also patched it recently too so somewhere along the lines they probably just bolloxed it up. Hope it gets fixed soon, have a nice growing community of BL players here at TOG.

This is what I have been told I can tell people with regards to this:

"I am sorry but this game is no longer available for purchase on Steam in these countries. If you have any questions, please contact the publisher."

"I'm sorry but we're pissed off that our dollar and economy is up shit creek and because it couldn't be our fault we intend to make you all suffer for not being up said creek with us. That and I was too busy complaining about steam's monopoly that I missed the opportunity to rip off their customers who pre-ordered too - so I'm taking my bat and ball..." - Randy

In all seriousness though I suspect 2K being the instigator of the mess that has been the Borderlands steam release - I just don't know a figurehead to attribute my quote to.

I guess if you don't have it and want it now, then you'd need to arrange a gift from a TOG'er overseas.

So, do I have to eat my shotgun or go sit in a skag den or something now

EDIT: Just noticed that EB Games have it marked on their website as $20 off at the moment. Interesting.

I see now that Borderlands is back up and available on Steam....for $30 USD more ($80USD). Ah well, at least my housemate helped me out in getting a copy.
Not happy with the profit mongering price rise, but I do get some satisfaction in that the majority of people would have bought it at the earlier price and cost 2K a crap load of cash
