Voyager is on a distinguished road
Default Freelancer

Hello guys. Freelancer has recently gone gold and should be in the shops mid march. It has a multiplayer componet and from what I read on some the Freelancer forums it is unreal. Hopefully it lives up to the hype.

Anybody else interested in getting this game?

I will certainly be getting this game. I never realised there was a multiplayer component and I'm looking forward to trying it out ...

I liked Chris Robert's games, but he is no longer involved in this one. Gamespot did a preview and said it still looked promising.

I'll look into it when it's out.

Damn you, Voyager. Damn you for bringing this to my attention.

I was just thinking about Elite, that old vector graphics space trading / combat game that I poured many hours into as a young pup - and now you point me to a modern-day descendant.

I would definitely be interested in this - I will keep excitement in check, however, until I learn a bit more about how the multiplayer has been implemented.

RedMan will become famous soon enough

I'll take a look when it comes out as well, though doubt I'll go for it.
Didn't like the fact I had to search round a bit for system requirements, even then didn't see the limit of players for the web.
I think this is the one where they wanted a large amount of players to be on a server and be able to link worlds.
Sort of the way NWN wanted to go with portals between persistant worlds.
NWN fell out of it because they couldn't secure cheating and left it to the communitity to manage.
This looks like its a SP game but you can play co-op, though I'm not sure if it'd supply enough action for a small group playing co-op.

Anyone know if it has a persistant world state where you can trade with people. Setup a business online to trade with others etc? Its either this game or another that was trying to head for that style of gameplay.

Found it
http://www.eve-online.com/
Thats the one I was interested in a year or so ago. If I'm going to get into this sort of thing I'd rather human interaction.

[edit] vid of the beta here
Actually, was crap vid, so took it out
not sure what its like, I'll check it out tonight

Might be alright MP, but its obvious the focus is gonna be at a SP game.

I would say 'woot', but I'm not entirely sure what it means.
Anyway, Freelancer demo, right here:

Rickety's gonna be angry if he doesn't get his connection soon.
