No offense intended to the suggestion but Oblivion is absolutely useless at enabling the playing of a role. So much so I think anyone who considers themselves a hardcore RPGer would scoff violently at Oblivions attempts to be an RPG. It is GTA with swords, nothing more. It is not an RPG. You want an RPG... play The Witcher, Ultima, Torment, Arcanum, Fallout... we have not seen a real RPG in many years. The Witcher is the first game made for those who have a passionate love for the genre and can't bare the thought of people referring to Final Fantasy as an RPG.
Oblivion is about as RPG-lite as an RPG has any right to be. BTW is that an Aquarius inspired avatar Znith? |

I loved Fallout, Baldurs Gate, Ultima, all of those but yes I love Oblivion. I find it an absolutely superb RPG.
But for me it's all bout the ability to immerse me into this world first and Oblivion was extremely successful in doing that for me. Was the best rpg I played probably since Baldur's Gate. |

You guys/gals have me interested! I've never played a "real" RPG before... unless you mean the rocket propelled grenade type...
I got into Oblivion at the beginning of this year, and still play it thoroughly today. Third or fourth time around, and still got 100+ hours per character. Just love it, and yes, the mods make it so much better/harder/more engaging. So, I'm keen on trying this out. I heard about it a while ago (maybe GG) and it piqued my interest then. I'll certainly try the demo, and hope it goes well from there. Having never tried Arcanum or Planescape, I feel there's a whole part of my gaming life I've missed out on! Look forward to seeing how this pans out.

I was fortunate enough to receive as a gift a Limited edition copy of the Witcher.
A really nice package with a making of DVD, Full colour A4 Art Book. A map of the realm and a Sound Track CD plus the PC version of the game of course. Have just patched it to 1.1a and about to start playing it now. Been a while since I have played anything like this since Betrayal at Krondor which was pretty cool for its time. Never really liked NWN or Oblivion or any of the other recent great eye candy but buggy RPG releases. Hope its as good as the people in this thread feel as its chewing up 8GB of disk space!

Man, this new patch 1.2 is wonderful. The load times take only like 5s most of the time now making it very enjoyable and not have to worry if you're entering the right house or not =D
I'm playing it the 2nd time taking different paths now as the first time around your choices were not as obvious which is awesome. Even the 2nd time taking different approach isn't as direct opposite as I thought it would so it still surprises me on every corner! |
