It's been patched already to address Siege Frigate spam.. they are also looking to change the phase jump inhibitors to make it more effective... probably a patch or two down the road though.

I'm considering getting this, but I REALLY hate micro-managing individual units especially in real time at an Empire level .... I mean, isn't that what you have Admirals for? Are your individual units smart enough to take care of themselves without direct intervention?

yes.. and if you set your fleets up you can decide on how loose or tight you want them to be in formation and what scale to act on e.g. local, grav well, hold position. There is also a shield mitigation device built into the game that reduces the effectiveness of focus fire (but not entirely).
It's still worth it to control the mega fights, but most of the time you can just keep a vague eye on it.

Is it possible to set the game speed as well when you're paying against the 'puter? Is it possible to pause, issue orders and then restart the action?
EDIT: NM ... google is my friend The answer to my question is YES.
I think I'll be picking this baby up. It looks like It may be a good diversion while I'm in MMO meltdown.

just be aware that each game can take significant significant chunks of time to complete

As long as there's a save button, I'm happy.

Ok, just picked this beast up.
We have any kinda setup to see who is available to play?
Be nice to run a few friendly coop's against the AI before jumping into pvp.

xfire is the best way I think.. that way you can see who is online and then poke them if they happen to be playing another game

Thankfully micro managing isn’t an issue with the scale of fleets being as large as they can become in SINS. Selecting a group of units then assigning them to a Fleet keeps things tight and clean. Assign your fleet to attack a system then zoom in once they’ve completed their jump. Hold down Shift when selecting targets to queue the destruction. While it’s not required to choose targets upon ordering a fleet to move to a hostile system it will be more efficient if done so.
Focus firing upon Capital ships is a great First-In strategy. Support ships will not attack planets unless their of a siege variety. When assigning/queuing an entire fleet to attack a planet choose multiple targets with shift+click so the rest of your armada will clean up the system while your capitals, and siege ships, share your culture. You can even assign a staging area for your fleet as to prepare for a phased-warp once everything has been dispatched.
Thankfully this is about as micromanaging as it could be. The Ship AI is intelligent enough to engage ALL hostiles that enter a system then will regroup at their fleet’s previously assigned staging area. If the fleet has invalid targets queued the ships will skip to the next valid target; i.e., TEC Heavy Cruisers will not attack a planet.
Oddly enough, Capital Ships are a generic term in SINS. These include Battleships, Battle Cruisers, Carriers and Dreadnaught class ships - There are also cruiser versions of a carrier. Specifically, Capital Ships “level up” and gain access to some potent special abilities. From providing Targeting Links, Damage Mitigation, Fuel Conservation to special Colonization and Planetary Bombardment (Dreadnaught specialties!) these ships are the center piece to any strong fleet. Don’t forget that these ships don’t shine until you have adequate support by frigates and cruisers.
I am enjoying the game and would be welcome to friendly skirmishes or a Player Vs Computer co-op. Weekends would be better due to the potential scale of galactic warfare.
From this point forward I will be known as The Destroyer of Worlds!
