Default NWN Crashing PC

Hmm, I've got no other problems but when I run NWN (SP mode, original campaign, v1.30) the PC freezes after a while. I don't have SoU installed yet (coz I haven't bought it yet)

Anybody else had problems with this version?

[Edit]

Broken with virgin install too. Must be a video driver problem (was the error I got on restart of windoze).

Just checked it - my game version is 1.30, and updater is 1.18.

I booted up the game and everything seemed to run just fine. How long was it before it seized, Cailith?

Can't say I've had problems. All I can report is that I didn't bother with the updater to get 1.30 because I knew I was going to get SoU, which would update my game to 1.30 anyway.

Funny thing about that is when I put the CD into my DVD drive, it made the most horrible *schrrip-clunk* noises. (Rotational motor starts up and then laser gets horribly quickly reset back to it's storage position)

Installed through the CDRW which was thankfully able to read it. Once it was installed, the CD was able to be read through the DVD again. Odd.

Now to your connundrum.

I'd suggest finding the newest VIA chipset drivers and also the newest Radeon 9700 drivers and giving them a pump. See how that goes.

ahhh yes - latest drivers - there is a bit on Biowares website about getting the latest sblive drivers if you have an sblive, and one about getting the latest 4in1 drivers if you run a via chipset - latest video drivers would not hurt either - but defiantly seems to be a prob with drivers for via nad sblive's.

Cheers

I've updated my VIA drivers to the latest - sound is onboard too - still failed. Have now updated to DX9.0a and completely removed the directory off the machine and reinstalling. We'll see what happens now...

4 PC rebuilds later I've come to the conclusion that NWN won't run on this system.

It went for an hour last night and I thought "woo hoo, got it now!"

Then it crashed. Now it just black screens instead of the freezing I was getting before.

Post it up on the official NWN forums - specs, details, everything you've done, etc.

There's a lo more people who will look there than here.

about that though.
