Sounds great...I know I'm enjoying Soulstorm, so this is one I'll definitely keep an eye on.

many seem to like it. I don't have it, since I can't go back to DOW after playing Company of Heroes (improved cover, varied unit repsonses etc). But there isn't a lot of sexy warhammer alternatives, and the sp campaign is meant to be fun.

More info taken from Relics forums and is a summation of the new PCPoweplay.
  • Single Player unit Death Mechanic
  • Every Unit is named, and has full backstory
  • No Resources (at all)
  • No Tech Trees (at all)
  • MMO style upgrades (green standard -> purple epic items)
  • Players base of operations is a Battle barge,
  • Dynamic World Meta Map
  • Knock Back effects
  • Sync Kills now known as Extreme Kills
  • Interactive Battlefield
  • Orks are kinda Slimy
  • Multiplayer has Pre-Match Battle barge setting up
  • Still more units to come
  • Possible Mission specific units
  • Army Painter Confirmed
  • Dawn of War 2 is optimised to run on Multi-Core Systems
  • You can possibly play DoW2 on 3-year old PCs with decent frame rates.
  • Relic still quiet on Tyranids.
  • Dawn of War 2 will be better than Cats
Cheers

No resources at all? Is it going to be command point based only? .. how will reinforcements be costed then?

I don't think re-enforcements will be costed during a fight mate, I am reading the article now and it looks like it will work this way:

You start out in a chapter battle barge above the planet
You click on a risk style map of areas
Each area reveals what the mission is, what is required of you and what is at stake.
You then kit out a full force based on a certain amount of points ala table top
And then you enter battle via drop pods
You can land all pods at once or you can add them as you need them re-enforcing certain areas and situations as they come up.
eg you may land a single squad of marines to check an area, get swamped by orks and land a drop pod containing a Dreadnought right in the middle of them causing hit damage and unleashing the Dread

now that sounds interesting. Finite resources, and can be played at once or tactically dropped later. Overwhelm early, or punish clustering in opposing forces. Intriguing!
