I think that the RPG Lite aspect came mostly due to it being developed as a multi platform title for the 360, if they follow the same formula they did for Oblivion then I can see this being watered down for that market too.

I actually don't blame the console development for that... it is a popular belief that console development means 'dumbed-down' but since Daggerfall the Elder Scrolls games have been on this slippery slope. I think it is just representative of a attitude in Bethesda rather than something born from development platforms.

I'm not really fussed about the mechanics of the game. It was the story and the setting that I loved about the first fallout games. Except for that multiplayer one, Fallout Tactics or whatnot, that kinda sucked as it was basically all about the mechanics and missed the whole point of what it was to be a Fallout game IMHO.

I think they will nail the setting even though the humour maybe a little more subdued (Todd Howard has often said he doesn't like humour in games) but a Fallout where I can't make meaningful decisions about my character, the actions they make and how they deal with the consequences (ie: A Fallout that ends up like Oblivion) would make Fallout 3 a bad Fallout in my eyes.
At least it won't be as bad as that Brother of Steel crap they put out on the Xbox. *shudder* |

Unfortunately, cross-platform is here to stay. It makes sense financially... and that's all that counts to the "actual" developers, you know, the ones with the money.
The one thing that really worries me about any cross-platform release, is when it's a shooter. They (as far as my experience goes) never work. The pacing has to be compromised too much. With many other aspects of many other games, I like to be a little optimistic. Written for PC, and ported to console may work nicely ![]() And please don't shoot me down here... But Fallout was TOO hardcore for me! Admittedly it was my first ever attempt at an RPG, and just didn't "get it" but the idea of a "lite" version doesn't frighten me at all. So long as it works well, in everything it does.

OMFG....!!!
How did I ever miss this thread...?!?!?! Btw - EB Games here in Aus has the Fallout Collection on sale - off to pickup my copy today! I only got into Fallout by playing a demo of Tactics. From the comments of other respected TOG's in this thread, I now understand Tactics is completely divergent to F1 and F2. Still for me, I love Tactics - it is my comfort game and I come back to the game again and again. Hopefully when I get Fallout Collection, I will get a better idea and appreciation of F1 and F2. Regarding F3, from all the discussion here, I seriously hope there is much to look forward to.

Yep, I loved Fallout Tactics too Tiger. Not sure why everyone (hardcore) dissed it. Was a good game, and yes, it was different from the first two... but maybe that's why I liked it!
![]() Hope you enjoy them Tiger. I've no idea what happened to my copies! ![]()

I tried numerous Fallouts, they never clicked with me.
Console games that migrated from the PC have to be 'dumbed down'. for the most part its easier to port consoles over to pc and add to them, then it is to try to put everything on a pc game onto a console. the latter of course never happens, any game I have played that migrated from a console to a pc has been the exact same as the console version, but pc games that migrate over to consoles are always missing stuff. i watched a buddy play doom3 on xbox, i knew where the secrets were, Id tell him what was coming up, whole sections of floor plans had disappeared, whole easter eggs. serious sam was the same way. FF7 how ever, was the exact clone from the play station on the pc.
