I have had so few problems in the closed beta of AoC that I don't expect a horrible launch at all. My prediction would be that it will be a relative smooth launch actually.

This sounds interesting though, looking forward to hear more about pvp in WAR and what it has to offer
So far the pvp in AoC sounds very interesting, but unfortunatly we haven't really seen any of it yet so nothing to comment there yet

Well I have given up on WAR beta. From my perspective and it is just that, WAR is not as good as AoC. It has nothing to do with bugs, but just the general gameplay is not there for me as it is with AoC. I just like the combat system better and WAR is just more of the same. Besides, I just can't get into the cartoony art of WAR. Too much like WoW for me. Oh well, I wanted to like it, I really did being a pretty die hard GW fan. I have been following this game since before Mythic got the license. I just hope the 40K MMO rocks me. Heres to dreaming....

The draw for me is that I've always loved the artistic design of the miniatures, although I could never be bothered with learning all the rules on how to play the tabletop game.
I've never been into PvP in medieval type MMO's as I always find them too fiddly for my liking (FF XI, Lineage 2, WoW, Sword of the New World, Guild Wars). As long as there are no negative effects from PvP like XP reduction or loss on death, burning through POTs, dropping gear that you've earned, then I'll at least give it a go.
I did enjoy Planetside, but that's a FPS MMO.

Not sure I get this argument. When I played WoW a few years ago (it may have changed now) I did everything that I could think of to get some meaningful RvR play, but it very rarely happened. Horde vs Alliance mostly operated as two completely separate universes even on the so called PvP servers. Whilst I'm not in the closed beta for WAR, my understanding is that WAR is largely based around RvR. That would seem to be a major difference even if one disregarded all the other interesting ideas that Mythic have.

Reoh is right, I am talking about the artistic point as well as the push a button and watch type combat. PVP in WoW for me was usually quite lame since it was always 5 to 1 or someone way higher level that I never had a chance in. I think WAR solves that problem as far as PVP goes. I don't have an issue with WAR in that regard.
It is that the playstyle is pretty much the same with a few more options in regards to tactics settings. I like the miniatures as well and I have over a thousand of them, no kidding, but I have been tainted by COD4, BF series, STALKER, HGL, AOC and the Daggerfall series (OB4, MW and DF) in their style of asthetics. I just can't get into cartoony land anymore with the exception of Overlord. The humor pulled that off for me.
In the end though, I want more interactive combat. I guess I got tainted on AoC. Initially, I didn't like it, but the more I played it, the more it grew on me, but then my main is a Guardian and it gets quite busy. I also do not use macros for my combos, because that only put me back to pushing a button to do something, so instead I push a few more true enough, however it feels like I am part of the interaction instead of autoattacking and pushing a few buttons every now and then to bring in another attack. I guess maybe I am more an FPSer than a RPGer.

That's funny, I've been playing COD4 for the last 6months and no MMORPG PVP and I'm missing that exact opposite. being able to run about pulling off tricks in mmo's rather than just point, click, kill hehe. The combo's were nice but I find while grouping they were annoying because the mobs just kept bouncing around between casters.

Ah OK - I'm just looking at the burning crusade (as there is a free ten day trial) to see if WoW has moved on since I last played it (and because I'm bored ). I started a new character in the blood elf area and find the garish artwork very distracting and distancing. I didn't really have a problem with the cartoony art style in other areas. I do prefer the more realistic graphic styles of Guild Wars and LOTRO though.

When I first played AoC (in the closed beta) I was impressed by the combos and by the way you had to adjust attacks according to the enemy's shield placement. However, I soon realised that both these ideas had a pretty artificial implementation:
I had thought initially that there might be some strategy to the timing of the key presses, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Sure pressing these keys makes things harder, but so would having to get up and run round your chair in between every attack. Also since the sequences can be assigned to macros you are just giving your self a disadvantage in PvP by pushing the keys manually. If some one is going to implement this sensibly there has to be some strategy involved in the timing and some reason for doing those extra keystrokes - other than just making the game harder.
As regards the shields - really the monsters just commit suicide by moving their shields to inappropriate places ("hey man I'm just taking my helmet off so you can whack me on the head"). Also for the system to work between humans in PvP it would need to be possible to dynamically adjust your shield when you see what kind of attack your opponent is preparing. However the period between pressing the key and your shields shifting is far to high for this to work.
The best reactive system I've seen in any game so far is the interrupt system in Guild Wars. It already adds a whole new layer of skill to playing, for instance, a mesmer or ranger, and I think could be extended further to make timing critical in other types of attack.

Yeah I popped back and did some leveling up with burning crusade, I don't mind the graphics at all they're good enough and part of the reason was they let people with low spec machines (which is what I was playing on for the longest time) still be able to play (good marketing). Graphics is like a beautiful woman in my book, she'll get your attention but if she's a complete BITCH for game mechanics you're not going to stick around.
Agree with you on AoC I was really excited about the combo's at first but pretty soon I realised I was just using them anyway (with maybe an occasional tap to encourage a mob to change it's shielding). I don't think I ever even bothered changing my shields, it never seemed to change fast enough so I just set them even and ignored them from then on.
