OK, so I haven't been keeping up with the WAR news recently. What's the latest on a release date (or estimate)?

They don't have a date yet. Game got pushed back not long ago. From this point I think they said another 2-3 months.

Gamestop has given me release dates in the past that were accurate and they are saying "Pre-Release Ships 06/10/08" for Warhammer and the AoC date has slid to the right to "Pre-ReleaseShips 05/20/08." I just copied and pasted the dates straight off the Gamestop page.

I'm hoping it won't get delayed again. This story on bluesnews seem to confirm that the release is on track for quarter 2 of this year.

With that said, my gut tempered with my endless bouts of depression are telling me that September/October would be a more likely time to release.

That way there is enough breathing space from the release of Age of Conan, the only other AAA MMO title to release in 2008, for that initial group of "OMG its a WoW clone" players to get tired of that game and then jump onboard with Warhammer... which is yet another WoW clone.

Yes, yes... I know that Warhammer came before WoW. However it's all the same "whack-o-mole" clicky hot button combat to me.

I read something the other day where EA was saying it's still on target for Q2 2008. Not sure if thats referring to the release or the open beta though...

closed beta has been sexy. not sure about release date
expect they'll either try for a US summer Holiday release (Early June) or a Christmas Holiday Release.
September or October would not be a surprise as well (sitting in the middle of the two holiday seasons).
