i just wondered, since i see it on so many of the war forums, are any of you upset about mythic straying from the lore of the game?
ie witch elves being given stealth, or disciples being a priest role for their god... im not at all trying to start the old tired thread on the other forums, of the stealth mechanic as a whole either, just strictly speaking lore. my thoughts on it are this, if you stray too far from whatever lore you based the game on, you are only using the name to drive consumers to your product. i know next to nothing about the world of warhammer, but in previous games, i have noticed outright slaughter of lore for the sake of game mechanics. what further complicated that mess, was that the quests at lower levels went into the original lore, only to be proven wrong at much higher levels. i tend to use the quests, and quest journals of any game to kinda learn as i go as far as lore is concerned. i would hate to learn lore in game and decide to read up on it and find it was totally wrong. anyhow, i hope some of you might be a bit more up to speed on the lore, and could state what you see in the game as far as what has been released.

Great question Bayle.
Mythic has repeatedly said they are doing their best to stay true to the War Hammer Lore. To be honest after D&D (1978 ~ 86'ish, still have a 1st edition players guide) I went straight to computer based games and didn't look at other paper based so never played War Hammer. There are a few War Hammer veterans in TOG so hopefully they can validate or debunk Mythic's claim to purety. FYi Here is what Mark Jacobs had to say about stealth in WAR after the Paris show: Warhammer News, Trailers, Screenshots, Previews, Reviews, Guides -- Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning -- The Hordes of Chaos Vault

I don't mind
I'm a huge Dark Elf fan but I can see that they're trying to use warhammer as best as they can but still fit the traditional MMO classes; Fighter/Tank, Magic User, Healer/Buffer and Thief/Rogue.Maybe they should have used Assassin's with stealth I think the Diciple of Khaine is a priest of sorts. |

i can see the need to change the dark elf lore for the sake of the game, i honestly can. the thing i wonder is how far can we stray from the lore and it still be considered warhammer? the things that have stuck out in my mind are the things mentioned above, and a few others. it was mentioned that the dark elf god was the god of murder, and could care less if his people were killed or not. that was a debate on not having a dark elf priest. im not so sure i buy into that one though, if all his people died, he wouldnt get any worship, and he couldnt have any pawns for murder... also as you had stated, alot of folk felt as if mythic needed a stealth class to balance with, that they shouldve selected the assassins. (in place of the witch elf)

I've been a player in the various Warhammer/Warhammer 40k games for many years now. While I haven't heard everything, it certainly sounds like they are maintaining a huge amount of the proper lore. And the nifty thing is that they haven't included a good half of the worlds lore yet.
It's just like adapting something from a book to a movie, you have to make allowances to make it possible. And so far, I really like what I see.

From what I've seen I think that Games Workshop has kept Mythic on top of the history and made sure that it is accurate within acceptable boundries.

I think it's important to factor in game mechanics where necessary into the Lore. I know very little about the warhammer Lore but from the changes mentioned here it sounds like they're creatively keeping the theme of the archetypes with their classes.

Remember that Khaine is Khorne so even if all the Dark Elves were killed, he has his other possie :P
It's a good point you make on the lore but it could be worse...they could do what they did to Star Wars in SWG. |

It's interesting that I've never really thought about it, but are they worshipping the alien itself or the ideal's which they represent which are still no different. |
