Thread: Total War: Warhammer

I'm interested in Total War and a lot of that interest stems from a representation of an historical period. Granted, it's balanced for gameplay more than accuracy..

Does your enjoyment stem from a good mating of the Total War engine with a fantasy franchise that your familiar with or is it simply enjoyable despite not having much knowledge of the franchise?

It's inevitable that I'll end up getting it, just when is the question.. TW sales come pretty quick and getting a bundle with a few DLC's for half the price of the game on release is appealing to me if the game hinges on knowledge and enjoyment of the franchise it's based on.

So anyone that has a point of view that differs from yours is classed as not positive..... yes I read the members area about TW also. These forum are for as you say "To vent" so you should not get on the sulks when someone has a different angle looking at a game as they are doing the same thing you do in putting up an opinion so you can either do one of two things: 1. Accept that the TOG member has a different view to you or 2. Keep staring at the view in hopes it will go away making you upset in the meantime - little hint it won't go away!

    Hey Astrospud.
I'm in Aus too and it came to $279 AUD delivered and $60 of that was the delivery fee.

Anyway for anyone else looking at this thread, the game is good.
I'm only a TW noob and I have read that some TW diehards find the game has been dumbed down for the new players regarding racial politics and unit formations from previous TW games but I find the strategy quite good.

Not sure why some forum posters are complaining about the lack of races - "only 4-5 playable race and TW blah blah had 10 races". What people need to realise is that (from my limited TW perspective) the previous TW games were all humans vs humans. TW Warhammer has 5 uniquely different playable races each with at least one playstyle which they do better than the other races.
example: Dwarfs as a defensive gun line - no one can match Dwarfs for defensibility and Thorgrim, just Thorgrim.
Vampire Counts: Swarms of low cost melee units to bog down an enemy unit while fast/flying units with limited survivability but high damage flank around or over. Tough lords and heroes. No artillery or range units.
Empire: A bit of everything, magic casters, low cost fodder, range units, mounted units and artillery.
Greenskins: Same as empire but less armor, more attack and free waaagghhh! armies.
Warriors of Chaos: Kind of similar unit roster to Empire & Greenskins but army has a lot of monster units as well. Horde army so no towns.

Each race also has a unique racial mechanic but all that can be found in the CA forums if you're interested.

I took the plunge and nabbed it as well. I havent fought any non-humans yet, just trying to establish the Empire. The magic adds a little extra on the battlefield. Nice.

I didnt realise warhammer was so germanic.

And French, in terms of the Bretonnians. I was discussing the parallel ethnicity within the WH world frame with Simmox and we kind of agree that the Orcs represent the English...with the obvious cockney accent and all.

I have been a lover of warhammer for a long time. When i was a child i would collect and paint the figurines, spending hours on all the details. Unfortaunetly i left that behind for study but truly miss it. But now there are games being released i am over the moon. Is this game here Warhammer cheap in US, up to 70% off the same game as what you are talking about here?

Hi B43D, yes that's the one, but where your link says "up to 70% off", I've found it's not very accurate, as the site offers the Steam Key for $55 and Steam sells it for $59.
If you are after the Steam game (you can get a DVD copy from EB games) you'd be better off buying it direct , paying the extra $4 and being guaranteed a working key.
I've spoken to other TOG member who've bought Steam keys of games from 3rd party sites, only to have bought pirated keys with no recourse for a refund.

Even better deal. $15 US. It's the free game included if you sub to the monthly humble bundle. You'll also get 7(?) yet to be named games. You can sub then cancel immediately and still get a Steam key to unlock the game. Currently downloading mine.

Was going to wait until the whole pack came out with the DLC for half price but I simply couldn't pass it up for $15.

I'm digging it more than I thought I would. Bit of a learning curve not being used to magic but have only played Empire and the Dwarfs and they aren't that far removed from traditional TW factions in early game at least.

Humble bundle lasts until the end of Feb. For $15, it's a steal, even if you NFI about Warhammer - like me.
