The Older Gamers is a community website and is provided as a totally free service to members and visitors alike.
The TOG website runs on 2 dedicated DELL servers in order to provide a responsive browsing experience. TOG runs on commercial Virtualisation Software that provides us with 2 additional MySQL backup servers, one locally and one remotely, this allows for database replication effectively providing 3 database servers. On the TOG site with over 3.5 Million posts without this solution every backup would take up to an hour (during which time TOG would be down), now we can make a backup EVERY hour on a replication server! We user Amazon for both backup storage on S3 and 2 Standby servers using their EC2 servers. Adding that all up means that the whole of TOG is reliant on an infrastructure of 6 servers and a standalone storage solution TOG is and will always remain free but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that the solutions in place come at a significant ongoing cost and thus reliant on regular income. The current supporter plans offers financial supporters of TOG different choices of benefits to suit every budget. ENABLING THE SUPPORTER FLAGS
To enable the supporter flags on your account choose “Control Panel in the “My TOG” top dropdown menu.
Click edit options in the left hand side column, scroll down to “Show supporter status” and choose your desired status.
