    Hello everybody!
I am back here looking for gamers over 65 years who want to participate in my study. I had already talked to some of you and learned a lot. So I was wondering if you can recommend someone else it would be great! This may be the first study of this type in Australia!

    If you:

    • Play MMORPG Games or any online game with other people
    • Are over 65 years of age
    • Are in Melbourne (it is not necessary that you live in Melbourne, but we should meet here)
    • Would you like to participate in a research study?

The purpose of the study is to learn from your expertise and design technologies to support socializing in online games.

The study involves an interview and discussion about your online gaming experience.

Thank you so much Claw for your commentary, I visited Claw last week and we had a great conversation around his experience with online games, specifically I learned a lot about Battlefield and how he enjoys it!

Toggers... if you know someone who can participate in my study please send me a message.

PenGun, thank you for volunteering :)
It is so sad that you are so far away.
I am considering to do an online study in the future, in that case, I will have you on mind.
    Enjoy your gaming!

    Hello Xcel8-2-50+
Thank you for your interest in participating in my study. As it has been so difficult to find participants, I might be considering opening for gamers over 60 years old. I will write a mail when I have this confirmed.
    Regards,
    ROmina

I fall below the 65+ threshold...I am "only" 58. I've been gaming since the invention of Pong at arcades. I got my first computer, an Apple ][+, in 1982...and have been online ever since. If I qualify, let me know. If not, No Worries...no hard feelings!

I've interacted with another investigator about aging and gaming in the past that inquired here on the TOG forums! -)

Hello everybody, I am still running my study with gamers over 65 years old. It seems I will do it for the rest of my PhD :)
I had amended my ethics and now I am able to do my study online through Skype.

    If you:
    • Play MMORPG Games or any online game with other people
    • Are over 65 years of age
    • Like to participate in a research study?

The purpose of the study is to learn from your expertise and design technologies to support socializing in online games.

The study involves an interview and discussion about your online gaming experience.

Hi Romina, I think your problem is the age. When 65 yo were younger there were no (well no games) computers they were older when computer games started appearing. So even less likely to embrace them or even look at them. Even in my age bracket im 61 there are very few of my age bracket that are interested in computers. Because the 60ish now were 'older' when computer stuff started they were then a minority getting involved with them so there aren't that many of us. And even rarer for 65+. A few years younger and they grew up with it or were young enough that they weren't frightened of new technology. So there are heaps of people younger. When I was at late secondary school computers were punch cards..... wasn't until my late 20's early 30's that some games started appearing. Late 30's games were more fun and choice but often quite simple. puzzles, cards, pacman etc. What I'm trying to say is that in the 65yo bracket they would have been closer to 40 or 50 to really embrace the immersive games and it just didn't happen with a lot of them. Because it wasn't something they grew up with, the majority unless you really made the effort or liked it, it was not part of something they embraced. There are so few in that age group. There are so few in my age group. There are a lot more my age group than 65+ and 5 years younger again mountains of people, a totally different dynamic.
