Wondering any ToG D&D groups who are using online tools like roll20.net to play? (and communicate via voice chat)

I'm mostly familiar with 5e rules, but i know 3.5e from various video game adaptations. I'm also not the best role player but I hope to improve with more sessions.

    many thx

I play three different campaigns on Roll20. Two DnD 5e and one Star Wars: Edge of the Empire. However, I don't believe I have played with any TOG members as of yet.

I play every second Thursday in a 5e group. Hard to find regulars with old people like us as time is precious.

I'd love to join in on something like this as my old group is around 2 hours away by car now and they don't seem interested in pursuing the online method. I am however in the middle of moving house so it might be a few weeks before I am settled enough to be able to take part. Still very interested though :)

I would be interested in this after the 11th when I get the internet properly sorted out.

I tried to get into 6 Roll20 games without success. I stopped playing D&D 40 years ago and just recently bought the 5e Players Handbook (PHB) to try to get into the game again. The local book/hobby store that hosts weekly games is DM-locked...you have to be a friend of one of the players or DMs to be invited to play.

So I tried the online venues. Roll20 is free with $$ subscriptions giving extras. Fantasy Grounds is sub only. I signed up to 6 Roll20 Free-Games (as apposed to Pay-2-Play) D&D 5e games. I was invited to 1 group, which is trying to create a massive world enviroment....which unfortunately focuses on "level 2 character with +1 armor and a +2 magical sword"-type characters (Monty-haul DMs) playing in Gladiatorial Arenas and/or dungeon crawls (kids who grew up with video games trying to create video game scenarios in D&D). The other 5 were "thanks for applying, I'll let everyone know by Monday next week who was chosen" games that disappeared 2-weeks before game date.

I am in the US (San Diego) but often play online MMOs during Oceanic times. I am still level 1 player as I haven't had a game yet. Still learning noob. Let me know if any TOG games come up for 5e.

    **Update:
I gave up on the Online D&D Gaming. What I found out was: Either the games in which I was accepted never actually started and the DM would disappear/close the game PRIOR to the first meeting...only to submit another game...and then do the same, again and again. OR I was picked to play, but when I tried...the DM replaced me with another friend, sorry...this happened 8 times. Now, I'm a patient guy...but come-on!!! >.<

In Nov 2017, a game store opened up in my town (transparency: I actually don't live in San Diego...I live north of it in another "city"...San Diego is more recognizable world-wide than my town's name!).

They run many games from 6pm-10pm. They're hoping more Warhammer, Star Trek, and M:TG players show up...as those are more profitable.

Right now, my Girlfriend "Precious"(of 20+ years) and I are in a Noobs-level game. Total of 6 last week and now 8 players...two were added last Tuesday. Four are well versed/DMs and 4 are total Noobs. Nice mix.
Our current game can be described as Murder Hobos! Anything that wanders by is instantly attacked by 5 party members. My character has already "served notice" that as a Paladin, this has to stop NOW! We'll see if I'll be surviving the next game...I suspect I'll be a party-killed-player. -)

One of the new players wants to start a game that meets every 2 weeks...outside of the Game Shop game...because he wants to play 60% roleplay - 40% combat. Precious (TOG member who never reads the forums) is having a hard time NOT Meta-gaming...but enjoys roleplaying...so this game might help her learn the system faster. -)

Currently making Spell Cards so it is easier for me and Precious to read the spells.

Hey @Dolnor . I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I am glad to hear that you've found a face to face group.

Fantasy Grounds is having their 12th con in April 13 - 15, 2018. The games will start appearing on their schedule over time. You can use that to get a taste of what Fantasy Grounds is about.

Let me know what times you and Precious are interested in gaming. i am on the East Coast and I am an early riser, so our times likely don't match up, but if I can help you out I am happy to try. (I usually try to play a three hour session that ends at 9 or 9:30pm Eastern on worknights.) If you don't have any more interest because you've found a face to face group, I get that. I just wanted to extend the offer.

    Thanks the offer!

Precious (actually she registered here on TOG as Almadine...I was mistaken) and I are in 2 face-to-face games in our town. A game store opened up here in November and we were invited to a pick-up game. Plus another group of newbies (even the GM is new) are doing a session every 3 weeks in person...this group is more about Roleplaying and the previous group is more of Murder Hobos! LOL

By the way, I've been creating spell cards for the members. Obviously including copyrighted words from the Fandom Wikis of D&D Spells and such. I am not making them to earn $$$...just providing a services to fellow players. I don't plan (read: I'm NOT) on doing all the spells/cantrips...way too much work. Just the ones that my fellow players and I use. You're welcome to use them once I post them to my imgur account...I can provide links. They're just easier than having to look them up in a book or on an app. Eventually a fellow player, who has a full colour printer, has volunteered to print them on card stock.

Currently I am using 4 per page (US Letter 8.5 x 11") but those are too large for my tastes. I'll be also creating them as 3x2 sets (6 per page)...good size and easy to find plastic pocketed sleeves they fit into for a 3-ring binder book-of-spells! -) I am creating them using MS Paint and an old 1998 version of Paint Shop Pro. Yes, I can get a copy of Photoshop but that is just way too much power for what little this requires. Besides, that would be another steep learning-curve to properly use Photoshop. Using it for this would be like installing an V8 engine on a Moped...yes, it has been done and yes it was worthless! -)

    Here are a few examples...
