    Well...

We've always thought that it'd come to games allowing players to spend real-world money for in-game stuff. Especially since its done anyway as it is now.

Forty bucks a month though? Youch.

I'm really sorry to see that they go down the path of selling in-game loot for real money, that actually improves the toon. If it were just "shiny things" with no toon improvement features, then that would be ok. But this...

And up to 40 dollar/euro for a month of play? Anyone interested in competing for the Archlord title will likely have to go for the Lord package.

    $40 per month!!? LOL

There isn't a game in the history of MMO's that's worth $20 per month let alone double that.

The game is just a reimagined version of RF Online.

Don't really know much about this game, but will be interesting to see how many folks pay for the monthly Lord package at $39.99/€39.99/£27.49... ouch that's nearly twice as expensive as most MMO subscriptions.

Also here's a thread about the ethos of Codemasters PayPlus system.

well from feedback from some Korean/Chinese players ... the loni (PayPlus) system doesn't have all that large an impact there. No telling how it will impact on western style of play ... no way I'd ever pay $40 a month for 1 acct ... but I can afford to have 2 accts on the entry level $10, so my family can play as well... Or I could drop my 2 L2 accounts and pay for 3 AL accts ... heh.

If I was thinking of playing, objectively I would be thinking to myself do I pay £6.99 to play Archlord, or £27.49 to play Archlord with some extra beneficial consumables....

    That's a £20.50 difference I don't think I could ever justify.

My understanding is that the extras don't have true game impact until after lvl 40 ... and even then primarily for those who are the hardcore ArchLord wanna-be's and it's subtle (ie: uber-hardcore basic vs. uber-hardcore lord will see the diff) .... since I would hate to ever actually BE the ArchLord (who needs the pressure?) ... I'll putter along on the basic I think. Everyone always levels faster than me anyway :D

    Except Valdis.

I guess it might not be so bad if they allow people to switch packages.

So I'm thinking if you (or helping someone) go for Archlord you change to the "Lord" package, and then once you're done (or given up) you switch back down to the "Squire" package.

Anyway interesting game, I wonder how successful it will be in the western world.

As far as I know you can pick your package every time you pay. So if you pay monthly, you could switch month to month. I'm guessing there will be a way to "upgrade" if you do a 6 month Squire thing as well. It would make good business sense for them to do so.

So if you're doing a Lord package and know you'll be on vacation or away for a bit, drop it to Squire for the light month ... heh.

I am still bitter over Codemaster's cancellation of Dragon Empires and the fact that I can never seem to log into their website even though I have been "signed up" with them for a couple of years. Sure I can sign into my details but trying to access forums or anything else is a pain. What is up with this company??

If you have to pay for in-game items, then the subscription price should be zero. This is a viable model that some game developers are taking. It seems to me that either you pay for the game and get free online play (Guildwars) or you get a free game and pay for upgrades either by expansion or items etc. But to get a double hit . . . HAHAHAHAHA.

Be interesting to see what happens to Archlord . . .

Just got my beta key today. Downloading the program now. I won't be able to say much, due to the NDA, no doubt, but I can certainly give my impressions.

I've looked through a few forums on the web, and among beta players that does seem to be the consensus.

I always get confused with NDAs and where the line is drawn. I would love to expand my opinion. Since I don't want to cross any lines I am sure that saying that my face looks like this :bigfrown: while playing will be enough.
