    Hi Everyone,

My name is Jon. I'm 44 years old, live in Maine in the US and enjoy playing a variety of MMOs. I've been PC gaming since it has existing and also enjoy tweaking PCs, building them etc.

The driver for me with the MMOs is the interaction. I love hanging with a good group, having a good time; cracking jokes and enjoying the game. My primary game is LOTRO. I have dabbled with AOC and just quit Everquest II after playing from launch.

I have been a guild leader, officer, and just member..In fantasy MMOs, I primarily enjoy players casters or support classes to include healers. With that said, I'm not a bad tank and usually have at least one as an alt.

I'm excited at the prospect of playing with more adults. So far in LOTRO Online it has been tough to find a Kinship that is really active. I played in the beta but my highest character is just 36.

I play pretty regularly but have a demanding job so I'm primarily on weekends but usually do log in during the week at least a couple nights.

I hope to get accepted and look forward to meeting many of you!

OK AND I have read and agree to:

abide by the TOG Code of Conduct
abide by the TOG acceptable usage policy
abide by the forum and server guidelines
    abide by the FAQ document
abide by the signature and avatar guideline.

OK, here's my take and I've played most of what is out there; EQ2, Eve, Wow, etc...

The LOTRO Community is super first and formost. People tend to be helpful and there seems to be more adults than the "Hey dood wan 2 duel 4 sum phat lewt" kiddies that seem to be everywhere in WOW and AOC.

Many dungeons are instanced and "named" mobs are usually tied to a specific quest so there is little "camping"

The game looks amazing. If you're a fan of the books and movie, you really do feel a part of things and the main storyline is pretty engaging.

With that said, LOTRO is a 2nd generation MMO; i.e it improves on the original idea, looks better but isn't all that innovative in terms of breaking new ground. Crafting for example is less complex than EQ2 but offers a little more than WOW but you still click on a MOB to kill it and mash buttons to kill it.

AOC offers some pretty innovative combat with the ability to block and attack from multiple sides. I found this to be a blast if you play a melee class. I tend to like casters so in that respect it really doesn't do much for you. On the Set server, I really found the community to be pretty obnoxious. The game is buggy as you might expect although Funcom does seem to be on top of updating bugs as they appear. While I enjoyed the 1-20 leves quite a bit, the game got pretty dull after that - a lot of the same. DX10 graphics aren't in play yet; nor is the promised siege combat. Crafting is horrible and from what I see, requires you be a membe of a really large guild to advance.

I'll probably not stay with AOC for now but may take another look in a few months. I love the genre and was a big Robert E Howard fan as a kid. It does look amazing and I'm anxious to see AOC in the DX10 intended. :)

    G'day Jon.

I hear what you say about crafting. I was a big time player of SWG before SOE trashed it. It had a gameplay and crafting that I had not heard of in any other MMO. Pity SOE got greedy. I tried out Vanguard but wasn't overly impressed with it (and being another SOE had the usual bugginess).

I've now settled into WoW and have been playing for nearly 2 years. If you get bored with AoC come and check us out. We have some very strong guilds particularly on the Proudmoore server. I play in the alliance guild and we have a number of US players who regularly organise instance and raid runs.

    Have fun.
