I've chucked up a quick "first impressions" review on my blogsite:

    First impression - underwhelmed.

Had issues trying to get it to run well - turns out I really needed new drivers for my card, now all is fine. When I got it running, wasn't too impressed with how many shots it takes to down someone - these guys are in t-shirts remember. However, I'm very happy that it takes only one shot to the head to down anyone - even from a distance with the mounted .50cal's :) Joy!

I had some pathing issues during the tutorial phase - you really need to do things exactly as it tells you - try anything else and it just wont work. Trying to guess what and who to talk to next became an ordeal - but I'm very pleased to say, get past that point, and it's MUCH better! :p

Still too early to get into the nitty gritty of it - but it's looking really promising for me so far. AI seems pretty poor, and there's a major issue with my audio that's keeping me from really liking it - seems I have to point an ear at someone to be able to hear them at all - and with no sound options to play with - I just don't know what to do... I'll figure it out though :)

    First impressions here....

After battling the Securerom issue I got the game on Steam. Turns out to be a little cheaper than you would get for the CD version here.

I must say that the eye candy is great. I am getting through the tutorial phase and gaining an understanding of the overall single player game play. I agree that the AI is good.

I then decided to give Multi-Player a go.

WHAT A CROCK. The game joining is console like. Once the system finds a game for you to play (it decides) you are then left waiting for everyone to ready up. This leads to frustration and kick votes being initiated.

Once in game the aforementioned lack of stopping power of the weapons you get when you start lead to significant frustration when you put half a clip into someone only to be killed by a shot from a pistol.

I was really looking forward to this game, especially the multi-player aspect. I must say that this is a game that will only get single player from my perspective.

Given the game joining aspects, I am not sure if this will work for clan play.
(this is unless I missed out on something)

I am hoping that I am not disappointed in spending my $80.

I've yet to be able to get the MP to work - totally screwy system to force you to create a login from the web - not in-game. So for me, I've already registered my nick/account previously - and now that I want to log-in with it, I get no online activation code or whatever, so it can't find any servers...

I'm really starting to feel that this is another bastardisation of console over PC. Controlling everything possible with three keys feels exceedingly simplistic - the ability to only carry one type of weapon (per class) and the enemy AI feel like a dodgy port to me. Very sad to see.

From all I've heard of the MP side - it's real potential is in the mods - but it's a real shame to see developers almost counting on others to do their work for them. Also, what the hell is with a max of 16 players?? For gods sake - PC does not equal console! Just because PS3's and Xbox's have a net cap for 16 players doesn't mean PC does! We've got a world of 50 square k's, and we'll be limited to a console-centric MP experience.... Maybe I'm jumping the gun here... We'll see.

On a positive note - I was in a gun fight with a dozen blokes and saw someone fall off a walkway into the river - poor pathing I thought, but when the bloke started splashing around screaming for help - and eventually drowned, I was most pleased! :p

Oh yeah, so far I've done three jobs - and they've all been the same job at different locations...

Spec, if you have a UBI account, you just use that as the login and use the CD key that came with the game for online activation.

Now here is the tricky bit.... I found that the number keys above the alpha numeric would not work (Yep, they would not work on that field ONLY) you had to use the number pad for the numerics and the minus sign in the cd key. (Talk about completely stuffed programming).

So here we go with a product that is a bastard port to PC.

Will play a bit again tomorrow and see how it goes. Single player looks good, multi is a failure for me.

Patches could save things! The original Far Cry patches really did improve things DRAMATICALLY, especially for the MP. I don't have the game yet but the joining MP games thing sounds bad.

Is there no actual server browser ?
Can you direct join to a specific IP ?

Here's some of my screens with everything maxxed, 4xAA 1920x1200:

    Drac's FarCry 2 Screenshots

p.s. My monitor is really really bright so I have the gamma set quite low. On my crappy work PC these look rather dark and unsaturated/washed out.

Some of the scenery reminds me of bits and pieces of Call of Juarez.

    Enjoying the game though......

From memory you can connect directly to a specific IP neddie.

As to the MP issues, I think that's a reflection of the simultaneous release on PC, XBox 360 and PS3. Sadly, I think we may have to get more and more used to "console" style MP frontends... ;)

So far I'd agree though. Epic win SP, epic fail MP.

Spot on Rubi. Consolarific all round.

I found myself recommending to a friend they play this on PS3... so sad. :(

Good, possibly great game - but once again, it seems that too many brilliant potentials have been destroyed by a multi-platform release.

Still a good game, and seeing as I'm only 12% in, it could still develop into a great SP game on it's own - just a shame it's not going to reach it's full potential.

Just gave the MP a shot..........went in an Aussie server, dont ask me how as I didn't get a server list?,death match, thought what the heck give it a shot.............I think 2 players were using machine guns(Beavis and one other noob) the rest RPGs and nade launchers.Oh by the way it was ranked,so I guess everyone is looking for legend status (like COD4...lvl55 lol).

Like BF2 and 2142 I'm gonna have to cull the graphics back for online play to get max fps

Yeah, I tried MP tonight too and after about 10 mins I quit.

    Horrid account managament.
    Really flakey servers.
    Cruddy interface.
Graphics changes don't work untill you do a full restart.
Auto server select kept joining me to servers with maps that wouldn't download so it'd kick me out of MP.
When I finally figured out how to pull up a server list and join a game the "normal" way I found the gameplay really shallow.

I was expecting so so much more. I doubt I'll ever try that again. Pitty.

At least I still have Insurgency.

Post UT2K4, CSS and TF2 a game isn't going to be competitive offering a paltry selection of Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the flag and Escort for MP. Hell, after Halo that wouldn't even cut it on a console.

Don't buy this game for an engagaing MP experience...yet. The level editor is super easy to use, and if they get around to releasing an SDK this could be a really compelling mod platform. ;)

Once again, my thoughts too Rubi. MP - just not yet.

As for SP - is it just me, or is anyone else getting sick of clearing out a guard post, only to find it fully repopulated again three minutes later?? It's the sort of thing a patch can (and needs to) fix - so I'll just deal with it for now, but it's really ruining the game for me in a small way.

I'm sick of not been able to kill anything with the jeep mounted 50cal.........pull up a short distance from an outpost, thinking to myself I will take out most of the guys before going in (now I just drive in and run peeps over),line up a few guys and unload hundreds of rounds no one dies.To make matters worst I watch an AI get in the 'Ford Pinto' drive up to me while I doing my best impression of John Rambo in Rambo4 and unload the 50cal into the car,the windscreen shatters,I see blood......WTF the guy gets out and starts shooting at me.

But,on saying this I must admit it works both ways, most of the time when an enemy jeep is shooting at me I get out of my jeep and waste them with my kit weapons

So when my Gamers Sixth Sense tingled and I cancelled my pre-order, there really was a reason! That MP sounds awful. :(
