Forum, Game Server & Communications Guidelines

    _______________________________________

The following is provided to augment the Agreed User Policy and the Code of Conduct. Please read both documents carefully.

    Accounts
Members are only authorised to have one account. Duplicate account detection may result in a permanent ban of all accounts.

Access to the TOG Service or part of the Service may be restricted; inc. Divisions:
The Older Gamers [TOG] is a community where membership is generally provided to all forums and game divisions across all of TOG, however when a member chooses to commit to another clan or organisation for a game or their behaviour, actions or associations cause disruption or harm to the good order and management of a Division either in game or out, then it is reasonable to limit that members access to the corresponding The Older Gamers Service*.

To be clear, unauthorised recruiting of members using the TOG Service may result in restrictions or bans under this policy. Recruiting may include but not limited to the following purposes; external forums, clans, game entities, groups or raids.

TOG Administration delegate authority to act in accordance with this policy to Moderators and Division Captains.

A Division Captain is limited to matters directly related to the management of their respective Division.

TOG Administration authorise Moderators and Division Captains a further limited power of delegation in accordance with this policy to implement documented pre-authorised prescribed actions or bans that enable other defined position holders to take immediate action if justified in all the circumstances. Any such action must strictly comply with the pre-authorised prescribed actions or bans and be documented. Any action taken must be reviewed by the respective Division Captain who may either authorise the action or require further action or change as required.

Any member subject of review or action under this policy must be reported to TOG Administration.

TOG Administration retains the ultimate authority.

*For The Older Gamers Service, refer to the Agreed User Policy.

    Advertising.
Any advertising using The Older Gamers Service without The Older Gamer Administration permission is prohibited. Advertising includes but not limited to; for profit, non-profit; on behalf of companies, organisations, groups, communities, clans, kins; in game or out; any product, game, event, concept or idea; personal internet site or blog.

If you wish to advertise, or believe a representation or communication by you may be considered advertising, please contact The Older Gamers Administration or Division Captain prior to making the representation or communication.

Admins, Moderators and position holders: Attacks & Disrespect
Attacks or disrespect towards Administrators, Moderators and position holders will not be tolerated. They are all volunteers, they do not get paid, they give their time & effort freely & are chosen for their ability to be look at all things in a fair & just manner. Attacks or disrespect towards Admins, Moderators or a position holder may result in expulsion from TOG.

The position of Game Op is considered an extension to the forum Moderator function.

    Behaviour
You will behave as you yourself would wish to be treated. You will not abuse, harass, slander or behave in any manner that may harm other members or non-members. TOG has a good reputation within the wider gaming community & this is to be upheld by all our members. We take this very seriously & breaches will be dealt with possible expulsion from TOG.

T-Bagging: this is a common act done in games by the victor to the vanquished. This is an action that developers have not prohibited or removed from games. The Older Gamers accepts that this is a legitimate form of game play in the context of the gaming culture.

    Cheats or Hacks
One simple rule. Do not use a cheat or hack. If you are caught, subject to Administrator discretion, you will be immediately banned from TOG.

If you suspect another of cheating or hacking, collect evidence and forward to a Game Op, Division Captain, Moderator or Administrator for review.

Do not post allegations or evidence in the general forum accessible to all members. Do not voice your accusations using voice communications or game chat networks. Action will be taken against such posts, threads and the respective authors or accusers.

    Constructive Posts.
Alternative views often described as "Negative feedback" can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts that are insulting and rude may be locked/deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.

    Counterproductive or Disruptive Posts:
As above, constructive criticism is welcomed, but any member deemed to be overly disruptive, abusive, or counter productive can be removed from a division or TOG as a whole on a case by case basis & at the discretion of TOG administration. Relevance to the OP is key.

    Communications Services:
All Divisions must use The Older Gamers (TOG) Community Communications Service unless otherwise authorised.

Communications including swearing, humour and or emblems.:

'There's a time and place for everything'. We are all adults and The Older Gamers recognise people will from time to time swear or crack a funny. It is important to know your environment and audience. For example, when in Voice Communications consider the Division culture, nature of the game, the title of the Channel and who is currently participating. Additionally, know your Division rules and listen to other members including channel moderators. At the end of the day, as in real life, we need to be mindful and respectful of others.

Communications - Voice Recording (inc. Streaming):
The Older Gamers requires that any person intending to or in the process of recording a verbal communication of which they are part must give clear notice to any other person who may be captured by the recording of such intention to record or actively recording.

    Notice must include:
    - the creation of a permanent or temporary dedicated channel with title indicating "Recording" or "Streaming" to warn others; and
    - edit your name to include words "Recording" or "Streaming" to identify the party actually recording; and
    - a post in the relevant Division forum detailing the nature and purpose of the recording.

A person must not intercept or record a voice communication to which they're not a party.

Warning: Please be aware that any person in a Team Speak channel may at anytime be recording or streaming the conversation in violation of this policy. You talk at your own risk.

    Moderation of posts.
TOG Administrators and delegates may moderate posts as they consider appropriate.

Topics that may attract moderation include posting of pornography; discriminatory remarks which are sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, menacing, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive; excessive obscene or vulgar language; posts which discuss or illustrate illegal activity; unauthorised advertising; unauthorised recruiting posts for external gaming entities such as clans, kins, etc; information considered inappropriate; providing links to sites that contain any of the aforementioned.

The final decision of that which is appropriate rests with TOG Administration.

    Religious Debates
Some topics are what we would consider "Religious Debates", and these type of discussions and topics are not welcome in TOG.

Note: this section DOES NOT exclusively refer to debates about religion.

"Religious" debates are so called because they have a lot in common with (but are not necessarily) discussions of religion and politics.

They consist largely of people expressing strongly held personal beliefs about things that can't be proven — supposedly in the interest of agreeing on the best way to do something important (whether it's attaining eternal peace, governing effectively, choosing a CPU, or deciding which gaming console is superior). And, like most such debates, they rarely result in anyone involved changing his or her point of view. Besides wasting time, these arguments create tension and erode the value of this open discussion environment.

    Why have this rule?

The reason this is considered an unacceptable topic for this forum is because there are too many blind zealots on both sides of the argument who end up achieving nothing — except frustrating each other and wasting the time and energy of our moderation team.
Examples of unacceptable "Religious" topics include:

    • Discussion about Political parties and/or their policies unless associated with gaming or the provision of gaming.
    • Topics relating to Atheism, Agnosticism or Religion
    • Topics relating to Gun control or other policing issues
    • Topics that relate to geo politics for example Israel vs Palestine or issues occurring in the middle east.
    • Climate change
This is not a complete list and any thread which is deemed by the Moderator team to fall into a category of or similar areas of debate may be closed or removed by the Moderator team at their discretion without notice.

Repeated breaches of this this rule will be considered to be intentional disruption of TOG and will be dealt with accordingly.

    Personal attacks are prohibited.
Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts or communications which are designed to personally berate or insult another. Text or verbal communications of this nature is not beneficial to the community spirit.

    Redundant posts.
As a courtesy to others before beginning a new thread, please look to see if an active thread on that topic has already been established. If so, place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forum needlessly and many good ideas may be lost. Keep discussions about one topic to one thread only. Moderators should provide link to other thread when locking.

    Spam.
    Repetitive posts.
Posts with no point, subject matter.
No-one enjoys spam email & we don't enjoy spam posts on the TOG forums. Please refrain form posting spam.

    Thread Hijacking.
Is when a post is taken off topic by a person or group of other posters. This is disrespectful & rude to the person who made the original post. We understand that posts can go off on a tangent, but should be brought back on topic. Please keep this to a minimum.

    Trolling is prohibited.
Trolling is the word used to describe a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting the members of the forum community. Posts of this nature are disruptive and do not convey a friendly attitude.

Using the The Older Gamers, TOG or similar name; eg. STEAM, in game entities
Any person proposing to use the name 'The Older Gamers', 'TOG' or similar must seek authorisation from TOG Administration before doing so; eg. in game groups, external groups, STEAM Groups, Communications.

Unless authorised, Father must own any external service using "The Older Gamers" or "TOG".

Members may use 'TOG' as part of their name and tags to show their affiliation with The Older Gamers.

    Warnings, locked & deleted threads.
If a moderator locks or deletes a thread, they will leave a brief message as to the reason. Do not create a new thread re-posting the information in a locked/deleted thread or about a locked/deleted thread. The poster has the right to send a Private Message the Mod or Admin in regards to the said thread being deleted or locked.

Such matters shall remain private between the Moderator and the user. Questions or comments concerning warnings, locked threads and possible bans will be conveyed through private messaging, please.

Public threads by the poster complaining about specific actions taken against them by forum moderators or administrators will be deleted.
