    hey all

I bought a 325A as it was all i could afford at the time, now i have additional funding, thinking of melting it down to get a hornet.

Just wondering if i could get some feedback from people on which they prefer and why ?

Basically, the Hornet has more weapon spots while the 325a is more agile.

SOoo -- do you want to fly a gun platform or a fancy-dancer?

MY choice is .... Fancy-Dancer

Favoring the hornet myself at the moment, but though I would get some other peoples opinions to broaden my though patterns. Which normally are pretty limited, lol

Everything is speculation at this point as CIG is still working out the advantages and disadvantages of each ship. Yes, there is balancing going on. So, being the careful person that I am, I have both. A 325A and a Super Hornet.

Did you get the 325A with LTI? If so, I'd keep that since LTI is no longer offered.

No unfortunately, I found the game after LTI had been withdrawn.

Unless you are planning only PvP/bounty/escort I think that 325A is slightly more rounded ship compared to Hornet (all things considering).

There is plenty of discussion on private forum that perhaps Cutlass may offer all PvP fun and have still some cargo/trade capacity & if stealthed may also double in exploring.

Or you can opt for Freelancer consider some as less maneuverable ship but with good shields and speed. But that would negate your PvP/dogfighting inclination.

I personally think that Cutlass is typical glass cannon type of ship (which is not a bad thing if you are aware of it) but you could fitted out for any purpose.

But that of course goes for ANY ship in Chris's SC verse.

The 325 is better than the stock hornet.

If you get the chance, the Super "fkn" Hornet is IMHO the best single seat dog fighter due to the milspec upgrade that adds a second seat for a RIO to operate the ball turret.

I expect it will be available for sale again as has every other limited edition ship except the Idris-M corvette and Vanduul Scythe.

tend to disagree, 325a is a nice ship, but found that the hornets (except the F7C-M) were lighter than the 325a and have sizer maneuvering thrusters, so even though only having 8 and the 325a has 12, makes it more nimble that the 325a, plus add in the fact the all the Hornet's thrusters are pivoting one, while the 325a's are fixed, which in theory increases the number of thrusters available for turning.

weapon wise the Hornets rip the 325a to bits, even with no turrets mounted, that's 2 Class 4 remote Gun/Missile Turrets you can mount as you afford it.

as for cargo yes the 325a carries 4 more tonnes than any hornet can, but remember these key things. More cargo carried decreased handling and acceleration, and the Hornets by default can mount one size larger shields, and come with better armour that the 325a.

to compare 325a to standard F7C
    21.5tonnes vs 20tonnes empty mass
    8tonnes vs 4tonnes cargo capacity
size 3 vs size 3 max powerplant
1x TR4 vs 1x TR4 mas primary thruster (325a mounts a higher grade, but known effects)
12x TR1 vs 8x TR2 maneuver thrusters (see above about Hornets thrusters)
size 3 vs size 4 max shield
3 vs 4 forward gun armament
    2x2 vs 2x4 missile launchers
n/a vs 2x Class 4 turrets (optional Top turret slot it used for cargo module)

Only thing that is unknown is what bonuses the WillsOp Weapons System has.
Other than that the Hornet is the clear winning, with more available weapon upgrades, and better protection.

What I have found is a lot of people forget about the special feature on the Hornets in regards that all thruster (primary and Maneuver) are pivoted.

No reason to if you already have them both.

I went Freelancer and Cutlass first and then added the F7C-M SuperHornet, then the Banu MM and Retaliator.

The 325a will give you your basic cargo hauler. I'd love to see what the true affects that custom weapons system does. You could mount that on your Hornet and give it an extra advantage it if good enough.

Choose the 325a because I do not intend to basically focus on pvp/bounty/escort, also because its described as being more long range.

However, nothing is set in stone at this stage and everything is prone to change. Besides, the provided 'stats' are to basic to really compare with. Third, the current loadout is beginners stuff regardless, guess we're flying totally different ships within weeks if not days.

yes you will .. If you decide to do that, list it in the ship trader thread instead
as someone might be willing to trade you a ship in it's place.

went with the 325a myself because of the added cargo space, you never know when you need to earn a few extra creds.

I got the freelancer also for cargo running but really torn between the hornet and 325a for a smaller ship, might just wait till dog fighting is launched before i spend more money.
