    Hi,

OldGrunt (52) signing in and looking forward to the possibility of being able to fight alongside TOG members on the BF ladder.

I've been playing BF for almost a year now and I'm looking forward to experiencing the game played strategically and with good team interaction.

I've had a good read through the FAQ's and a number of the posts and this feels like a great place to hang out.

In my BF play I enjoy tank battles, I'm getting a bit old for the forced march of the infantry :) and I'm working hard on my Engineer skills.

In my non-BF play I'm the director of a web development company based in Sydney called Red Square.

    Welcome, OldGrunt.

As you just scrape in past the age limit qualification, :) and you have read the FAQs, I'm sure Father will be adding you as a member as soon as he reads your post.

Glad to hear you are interested in BF ladder play. Once you get membership, please check the sticky posts in the private BF forum for some other important information.

I'll add you into one of our BF teams - probably Viper looking at the current player levels. In order to compete in the ladder, however, you will need to send myself or Cailith your GameArena login name or the e-mail address you used when registering your GameArena account. Until we add you in, you aren't allowed to play in any ladder games (but you can still come to practice sessions / informal get togethers).

    See you on line!

    Welcome Oldgrunt

Just to give you a headstart on expectations here at TOG:

    i) Make sure your teeth are in when using teamspeak
ii) Despite concerted efforts by many TOGlidites Viagra distributions cannot be organised through this website
iii) Future walking frame races have been cancelled due to the shocking injury toll experienced at the last event
iv) More sugar in the cream for the scones has been requested
    v) There were many more but I've forgotten all of them

    Great Expectations!

Now you have me thinking I should have transposed my age to 25!

Please let me assure all of you that:

    i) My teeth are my own.
ii) I have my own supply of Viagra.
iii) I come equipped with my own "Scooter".
iv) I'd kill for a good Devonshire Tea
    v) Now I've forgotten what it was I was going to say :?

I don't think alongside thing happens with them. Tends to be a straight line which ends in a domino effect of TKs.
Or a landing strip for Cailith.

There are great roles for engineers in TOG's ET division as well. Give it a go. Oh and welcome.

Didn't realise you were an ex-ASDF, OldGrunt. Looking at the website, it looked like a very well organised clan - sorry it went under... but obviously glad to have you onboard here.

And I like that site design alot, very fast, very nice looking - did you do the whole thing?

And I can't help but be a sticky beak, but were you perchance the owner of the ASDF gaming server?

Everyone was very disappointed about the clan breaking up and we were sad to see it go. However working on it gave one a good appreciation of the time and dedication it takes to make a successful clan.

I think one of the most important lessons we learnt was that a too wide a spread in the age of members can create difficulties when trying to co-ordinate training times and clan activities. This is one of the main reasons I have registered in this clan.

As to the site, yes I designed it, coded it and hosted it. Its built on top of MM Cold Fusion using an Access database. One of the cool things is the image library which is running on an image server called TrueSpectra. This means you only upload 1 image and the server dynamically creates all of the derivative images, such as thumbnails, on the fly.

I had also developed a communication app that we used to talk during games with MM Flash Communication Server.

Yes, I am the owner of the ASDF game server and I have it in our rack at MCT. Check out the posting on the BF forums as I have put up information on how to access and use it for TOG members.

Think you have made a good choice. Everyone here is good at keeping it all in perspective. We know that frequently some of our players are going to be unavailable, so we try and work round it by having large squads and a fair rotation system for if we get too many people signing up. Hopefully everyone gets the action they want: keen players get plenty of games, occasional players (or those with less gaming time on their hands) aren't shut out.
We do probably suffer against some of the other teams in some ways because we don't have the same 12 players going in the game week in and week out - but I think we would all agree that the TOG community is more important to us (and larger than) than just striving to be the best BF team in Australia.

Well I'm seriously impressed. Not particularly with the application of the technology (although well done on that too :) ), but more with your eye for impressive, effective and usable web design. A couple of the chaps in here have got the impression that I'm good at graphics and web stuff... but now I think they will realise I'm not so crash hot :)

Sounds intriguing. What was the voice quality and bandwith usage like? How does it compare to TeamSpeak (if you've tried it)?

    One word: LEGEND! :D

Just went on another of my forays into the BF Private forum - and I do wish you guys would make Derelict clean up after himself - and while I don't play BF, I'm very impressed by OG's generosity. :)

Hey GD - did you want to post a link to OG's site for the non-BF-playing TOGs amongst us to have a look at? I'd like to see what you've been raving about. :D

Hey OldGrunt - welcome from a fellow old grunt (54+). I believe we may have killed each other a couple of times on public servers - it's a name I readily identify with :) You are probably about the third oldest TOGster after me and Bunyip67 whose nick reflects his age, although I believe he is mainly in SWG not BF1942.

    WTF???

I'm a very clean living gamer and forum whore... and I think it also shows in that neither you or HellDad has not needed to send your SAGN hit squads on me!

Is this another one of those Older SAGN and very nasty Brother vs very gracious, helpful and awfully well liked Younger Brother things? :p

Oh, and sorry for derailing your welcome thread in trying to defend myself OldGrunt, a hearty welcome to you, and I'll hoist a beer in your appreciation for your generosity. :)

    Hey Oldgrunt.

Thanks for coming on board and making me feel younger again as we need more people like you to increase the average age of the TOG member

We have quite a few now being over 50. Good stuff, a long gaming life tog :D

If you could provide us with a TOG server that would be brilliant to say the least!
It's one of those things that is simply unaffordable to get unless you know someone with a fat internet connection. I'll be checking out your website as soon as I added you to the members!

    Cheers
