    Let me in!!

    Hi all,

My name is Greg and I've probably played with a few of you on the TOG BF2142 server over the last few weeks. I've been playing games for WAY to long, starting out with the likes of 'Commando' on the Commodore 64, moving up to 'Conan' on the Apple 2E then really getting addicted when I received my first PC, a shiny new 386DX, and a copy of 'Flight of the Intruder' yeah baby!

Anyway, work and kids take up most of my time these days but when I find a spare moment I like to jump in to some BF2 or BF2142 action to release some stress. The wife just looks at me sideways wondering what she has gotten herself into marrying a guy that still play games at 35 but hey, she knew what she was getting herself into. Hope I make the cut to join up :)

    Cheers,

    Greg.

    I remember that bump up from a commodore > apple > 286 > 386.

4 meg video cards were the bomb, but so were 2400 baud modems!

Ahh, I never went that far down the tree.

Had a spare 1200 baud for when the hayes 2400 died, wow was I glad to get back to 2400 after that.

I remember buying a Prometheus 14.4 modem and finding out my comp wasnt good enough to run it. I was unhappy, and had to stick with a 9600.

I still remember driving out to Abbortsford to pickup a shiny new 16550 UART chip for my serial card to support the 14.4 modem, a shiny black US Robotics. Unicom was the ultimate BBS software and I clearly remember downloading the demo of DOOM over several hours with the sisters shouting at me to get off the phone......those were the days.

Its a shame BBS had a downfall. We had one in town that I spent hours and hours on. Those doom downloads took all night on 2400, but I didnt mind. Commander Keen, Duke Nukem,

Yeah, before the days when there wasnt call waiting, so you didnt get kicked off when someone called. Call waiting sorta sucked until they put in the * numbers to block it out.

I wonder if I could still manually init a modem.

Those were the days (and nights).

Best BBS Software was EzyCom - made by a guy down in Frankston. Then there was RA, which everyone used. I ran then Victoria Police BBS for some years with EzyCom - great software. Anyhoo enough of that.
