Trouble with stations is that the more parts I have the less frames per second I get ...

    0.23 is live

0.23 adds "Science Archive" A cool repository of all the science you've done

    Asteroid Redirect Mission

In association with NASA (Yes, for real) KSP brings you the Asteroid Redirect Mission

Grab an asteroid and make it your pet. Name it, love it, get it into a stable orbit or fling it into the Sun - it's your call :)

I'm liking where they are going with KSP. I like the idea of building stations on/out of asteroids. I'm guessing it's a ways off, as these bodies don't have any degree of gravity well. Give it time though, and someone will add resources to these rocks, making them suitable for mining and maybe manufacturing off-world!

    Ah, to dream!

By the way - if you think this is a cake-walk ... you really need to think again.

'Docking' with an asteroid is ... well ... "dangerous" at best. However, WHERE you dock to it is important too - nearest the CoM is best as that allows for easier manipulation and is less likely (by a factor of about 0.035%) to tear your ship apart when you attempt to wrest control.

Make sure you bring a towel.

I thought I'd give a multi-grapple ship a go as there was a Class E asteroid not too far away (103 days is 'not too far away'). So - made a 4-pronged ship and headed out there. Currently using 'sandbox' mode as the update broke my tech tree (sigh) and, FYI, Mechjeb is busted ... again. Still, for completions sake, I made my catcher a science based ship with a MPL and all the goodies ...

So - getting the best "center of mass" is so much harder on these big ones and the energy required to correct ... or even move ... is mad. "Slow and steady" is the order of the day :)

They have tweaked a few things - the art of getting a LARGE rocket into orbit is not so harrowing and only requires a fraction of the struts. I got that monstrosity into orbit using a grand total of 19 struts - 15 of those were on the Asparagus Drive. RCS is barely needed on take-off which is a blessing as you need a fair bit of MP to move the 'roids. It feels like they've reduced MP usage too.

    [EDIT]

Here's a closer one of the 'base'. Thinking of making a base on Minimus with those feet ... they're pretty neat

wow, 3 months since anyone's posted on KSP, I was waiting for career mode, then it's taken me a bit to finally find time to get into it. I knew I'd love it and I do.

So anyway, I'm just starting out, but after playing with orbits, I thought I'd put a capsule down on the pole for science I hadn't yet got.

I found out that there are times when it's not a good idea to do science.

Hi Brootal, I've gotten back into it as well. I'm finding a great many mods available make the game so much more enjoyable. While I would've liked to stick with vanilla in career mode, there are the more realism mods like Universal storage et al, are really quite cool, esp. when doing science is concerned. I have added about 17 mods thus far, but at this early stage of my career, I have yet to tap most.
I'm going to put more time into KSP, now.

After a few exploding attempts, I got something into space. (Tip: do not only use solid fuel rockets) It went past Mun, then past Minnus (I think it's called) and ended up orbiting the sun at over 7000 m/s.
Now I have something in orbit of Kerbin, but it's out of fuel and didn't have a parachute anyway.
I'm enjoying this game, but I have a lot to learn.
