Star Citizen Ships Development Document | Roberts Space Industries

OK this is the ship that made me jump at being a backer for this game. It has a quality that seems to bring out the Han, Mal, or Jet Black in me. I can see exploring the stars, running some goods (all legal of course:rolleyes:), or even some escort missions. Sure she isn't a flat out dogfighter but I have hopes for another role for her in combat.

So not that we have my geek love out of the way lets go into what the stats are for her that have been release. All are likely up in the air.

Focus: Heavy Mercantile and Long Range Exploration
I do wonder on these as the Starfarer seems to be a better Heavy Mercantile and the 315p is a cheaper and more defined ship for exploration. They will definitely need to refine this with the rumored Freelancer changes. Oh ya there is talk that the Freelancer is going to get the same treatment the 300i got.

    Crew: 2
This is a great number if we can hire a alright NPC or buy a targeting computer to run that turret when solo. I do tend to run with at least 1 other but I wonder how many people really just want to ride shotgun.

    Structural
    Mass: 55t empty
    Cargo: 20t
Good amount of space. Not as good as the trucker the Starfarer is but not bad at all. It is heavier and larger than the dogfighters but not even close to the larger ships. For me it strikes a balance of space versus usability. Sure the Starfarer will have more but that thing will turn like a pig.

    Movement
    Engines: Antimater
    Engine modifier: 3
    Main Thrusters: 2xTR5
    Maneuvering Thrusters: 8xTR2
Once again balance seems to be the key. The antimatter drive is the largest standout and I am hoping this allows for much larger "tanks" and longer travel times.

    Weapons
    Class 1 : None
Class 2 : 4 available comes with 2 laser canons
Class 3 : 2 available comes with 2 missile launchers
Class 4 : 1 available comes with 1 laser canon turret
Not a whimp by any means. If these are upgraded they might be enough to make up for the maneuverability but I still feel that stock it would have a hard time against any of the other combat ships. To large for the dogfighters and to small to fight the Connie sized ships. I think that because of the slots for weapons and upgrades it could easily be a match even against other upgraded ships.

    Upgrades
    Slots: 10
Alright this was the save the best for last thing. This ship can be modified better than almost every other ship. The Hornet is the primer dogfighter and it has 6 slots. The Cutlass is going to be one of your main aggressors and it has 5. So while we at stock "might" be at a disadvantage give me a couple of weeks in game and my girl is going to be one mean bitch.

    Possible upgrade coming:
I mentioned the rumor earlier and here's what I am hoping to see as packages they come out with.

    1. Long rang exploration package: heavy on sensors, engine upgrades for distance, and same cargo. Use up a couple of the upgrade slots from the base model Oh and a tractor beam. If the 315p gets one so should this.
    2. Heavy Merch package: Up the cargo, engine upgrades for efficiency
    3. Electronic Warfare package: Sensor upgrade, radar jamming or false signals, engine upgrade for silent running. I think this would give it a specific role in mixed ups fleets.

OK there is my rant on the BEST ship they have offered so far. You can try and disagree but everyone knows it's true because it's named after Chris's legendary game:p

    Edit:
I also should mention that I could care less if they do the 300i thing. With the 10 upgrade slots, good sensors, decent weapon slots, and an anti-matter drive I am pretty sure I can get her to be one great ship.

I'm actually thinking of dropping my 325a and getting one of these, even though I already have a Starfarer and a Connie.
You are correct about the 300i treatment, but I'm not sure if it's getting the full treatment. We already know the Hornet, Freelancer, and Constellation are getting limited variants, see https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0AuaGNbQHCx1fdGxkNG9WbFR0dElJTU9aekxEaEFaWHc#gid=0 the Grand Admiral is being changed today to include the yet to be announced variants.

I will be getting one when it's variant sale happens, not sure which variant though, probably either an E-war or explorer version I guess. I have my Spacecow for hauling/refining.

I don't think there have been any announcements of upcoming variant sales. It will happen when/if it happens.

I know I will be interested in seeing what kind of variants they come up with (assuming they do). I'd be especially interested in the possibilities of a mining variant - once they decide how mining works of course.

I haven't heard of any sales either, but the Wingman's Hanger did tell us to look for some brochures and advertizements (commercials like the 300 series) this week.

If they come out with a full on exploration version I will be getting it with no doubt. Depending on the other versions I might get more than 1 but I really am not sure. I already have a Starfarer so I don't need a miner. More cargo really doesn't get me excited either.

A combat Freelancer would need to fill an interesting role that no other ship could do for me to really want it. I just feel if I want a combat ship I'll buy a ship that is specific to that.

Exploration and sneaking in to map pirate bases and areas will be my main focus. So big tanks and silent running would be good things for me.

The idea of a EW version is also something I had not considered prior to this thread. That could also be interesting once the game is further along.

The wife tells me that I'm getting a Freelancer for my b-day at the end of the month. :) I hope there is no downside to buying one before they come out with the different versions. I'd like to get a stealth one with electronic surveillance and countermeasures... sort of a cross between the stealth bomber and the AWACs.

No down side. Means you already spent the 110/125 for the ship/package, so when the variants come, you can melt it down and use the credit towards a variant. You will only have to pay the difference. Example 300i > 315p upgrade cost $10/$15, 315p > 325a upgrade cost $5.

Oh, good to know. Thanks MarcT. :)

Hope that I don't go broke buying ships before the game is released. Heh. :)
