    This looks amazing!

    Naval Action

Pre-purchase has closed for now, but I hope to pick this one up soon.

Ok, Im a little late to this post, but wow, if they can add the features they want to and to a high standard then this can easily be the game that potbs should have been!

If it becomes too realistic, it will not have a large calling.

People want realism, but they don't want to have to wait for stuff.

    For example:

Any new iteration of Call of Duty. It has realism, but it doesn't have the stuff that makes you wait, like briefings, planning, waiting in a transport, another briefing, waiting and waiting to get to destination in a helicopter. Instead, the game puts you in the battlefield right then and there.

Thymos, while I'm sure this is true for a large number of gamers, the likes of Arma has a religious-like following for the reasons you describe. And I'm not talking the Dayz/Wastelander/solo survival gamers. I'm talking about the milsim community.

I'll put what little money I have on this growing it's own hardcore community, especially with the open worlds environment. Piracy (in-game, not of game ;)) is a drawcard to the world of Eve-Online, so we will see a similar uptake in Naval Action. :)

He DID capture a prize ..

Too bad he forgot to 'Ventilate' it's sails (to make it sluggish)
and deliver the grape shot thru the stern windows.

This is a bad comparison, I know, but I enjoyed the naval combat in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. I thought adding that game mechanic into the title helped me get into the who 'Pirates of the Caribbean' vibe the game was sort of trying to help me experience. My point is that I enjoyed the combat. I liked battling other ships, stealing their treasure, recruiting the men for my ships, and even getting larger ships like a Man of War with more guns and armor.

If this game is anything like that remotely, then I'm sold.

With boarding actions little more than dialogue boxes, you may be disappointed.
That said, the real appeal for me is the helmsman-ship in an open world. It's just a beautiful, open world game. I almost bought it tonight. Need to eat the next few days, so deferred purchase. :D

I wonder if naval action will eventually get it's own forum here.
