Flying Labs Software will announce this weekend August 25-27th at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) the release date for their latest MMO - Pirates of the Burning Sea. http://www.flyinglab.com/pirates/index.php
Hopefully, it will be soon and hopefully they will announce open beta as well.

    Really

I thought that would end up being one of those eternally developed games.

    Lol, and you'd be right.

Flying Lab Software Announces PotBS Launch Date! Seafaring MMORPG to launch June 2007

"By the time the game releases in June 2007, it will have been in development for almost five years and in beta testing for a year and a half..."

(Limited beta testing started Dec. 2005.)

EDIT: Oh, should mention that if it releases in June 2007, it will have been in development closer to six years... I think they started in 2001. The original release date was fall 2003, which means if it releases in June, it will ship almost four years late.

Wonder if it'll look and feel that way? It's got great potential, but it seems that other games that took forever to get out the door tended to crash and burn. Very pretty burning, but burning all the same.

In the announcement they mention "award-winning MMORPG Pirates of the Burning Sea" which made me chuckle :) but goodluck to PotBS hope all that time was spent well.

    Heh

Yeah, pretty amazing that you can win awards for something that isn't even finished yet.

    LOL

You guys crack me up. It's like watching the news looking at your posts. You dramatize the bad and overlook the good.

Can, I have more than 1,500 posts on the PotBS forums, and I've been following the game closely from the summer of 2003, when the devs said it was going to be a Fall 2003 release. Then said winter 2003. Then said Q4 2004. Then said some time in 2005. Then said winter 2006.

I do not see much "good" in delaying it to "OMG we're going to release in 2007!"

IF you can find some good in a game that's 4 years late, good for you.
