Hey folks, Relztrah here, a 54-year-old gamer who is glad to have found this fourm. I developed the bad habit of playing my teenage son's Xbox 360. I love the shooter games, especially the Tom Clancy games, but the problem is always the same: I get about a third or half way into a game and cannot advance. Maybe it's my half-century old brain or thumbs, but I can't avoid getting killed at a certain point of every game, even on the easy setting. The only game I actually finished was Battlefield Bad Company...and that took me a week.

Is there a FPS for the 360 that I can actually play and enjoy? I really liked Half-Life and Half-Life 2 which I played on my PC, which is also old and slow and that's why I now have to use the 360.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

The only FPS i've finished is Resistance : fall of Man, but this is only a PS3 game so that's out of the window.
I'm the same as you with Call of Duty : World at War. I'm stuck on a bit half way through.

There are a few XBOX people in here that will help you for sure :)

I enjoyed Darkness, about a year old now but I quite liked it. Fallout 3 could be considered an fps but is also like an rpg so may not be to your tastes but is an excellent game. Bioshock is an excellent fps as well. Many 360 games lean towards a third person perspective, if you don't mind that your options increase significantly.

    Hi Relztrah and welcome :)

Many of us here are Tom Clancy games fans. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 gets lots of use with a lot of TOGers.

Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty World @ War are great games, but there are parts in those games that are just insane. While beatable you may find them a bit frustrating in places.

HALO 3 is a good FPS with few points that bog you down.

I just picked up Frontlines Fuel of War as it was heavily discounted. If you liked Bad Company you may enjoy this title as it similar.

My son has just finished 007 Quantum of Solace twice. (He is nine) I have not played it yet, but from what I saw it is very similar to Rainbow Six Vegas two in game play, but with out the difficulty.

Left 4 Dead is excellent fun, but I would only recommend this game if you are going to play it online as it is really designed for multiplayer. The single player is good, but is over way, way to fast.

If your looking for a fun third person view shooter, you could do worse than give Mercenaries 2 a go.

I hope one of the above is the title you are looking for. Let us know how you go :D

I played it and got all the way into the second level of the casinos and couldn't advance. Very frustrating. Those supposed "teammates" are no help whatsoever. I would have them enter through one door and then I would go around to the other side while they were battling the bad guys--I was at the large banquet room (or whatever it's called) filled with gaming tables, bars, etc.--and all those clowns were good for was walking in and getting killed so that I would have to risk my life to go back and heal them. Well, it's a great game, I agree, but I had the same problem that I have with all games.

Yes, I have read elsewhere that COD 4 is beatable on the easy setting, and one of my son's buddies has it, so I'll ask him to borrow it. Thanks for the tip. And I'll be looking for Frontlines Fuel of War to go on sale at Bonanzle and grab a copy.

Have any of you other old farts--er, uh...I mean seasoned gamers--played Bioshock 1 or 2? I know it's not strictly a FPS but from what I've seen it has some interesting twists and turns and might be fun if I don't end up just struggling just to stay alive after the first couple levels. I was watching my son play Bioshock 2 and was intrigued by the graphics, scenes, story, etc. Almost surrealistic. Of course he could beat the thing blindfolded.

    Thanks again for your suggestions.

Bioshock one is very good. Not your standard FPS with the addition of the plasmid powers, but a great addition to the genre. It has been out a while and can be found relatively cheap on the XBOX (It only came out just before Christmas on the PS3 so still commands release date prices.)

The creators of this game make very stylish and well planed shooters, though I can't for the life of me figure out why they never make their games multiplayer?

Good luck mate :) Oh and by the way, what part of the world are you in?

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. And yes, I am aware that the Pittsburgh Steelers just won the Super Bowl however I do not need a tranquilizer like most people in this city. I'm glad that they won and proud of the players and the coach, however the "fandemonium", as our local newpaper referred to it, is a bit excessive.

    LOL.

I enjoyed the game, although I have to admit I was cheering for the under dog Cardinals to take it out.

It was a close game and the Cards can hood their heads high for their efforts. My be next year my Giants can return to the Super Bowl ;)

Have you thought of any other style of games on your XBOX? I am enjoying Tiger Woods Golf at the moment and we have a TOG comp starting soon. This is a nicely paced game you might enjoy. :)
