Damm my ps3 just kicked the bucket. Got the yellow light of death. Have had a Google and there does not look like much I can do to fix it. It's out of warranty, the first release. So we had a good run. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? I rang Sony and its going to cost $250 to get them to fix it.
Mate if it is a launch unit (60Gb) it is PS2 backwards compatible and worth fixing. They fetch big dollars on eBay. If you don't care about the PS2 function, sell it as is on eBay. (Just make sure to mention it is not working and how much it will cost to fix). I am guessing you would get enough to buy a new model.
not many options for you apart from purchasing a new one. could always try this route Sony Playstation 3 Console - YLOD repair service - eBay, Sony PlayStation 3, Systems, Video Games. (end time 22-Mar-10 21:59:09 AEDST) 100% feedback which is a good sign
The dog speaks the truth. first release models in working order are still fetching between $500 and $900 AUD on eBay. (linky proof) Faulty they're still fetching between $100 and $300AUD. lookysee I'd be inclined (in fact I did, a year or two back) send it back to Sony for out-of-warranty repair. They'll send you a refurbished one (the same model as you sent in), and mine came back in a new casing with the sticky placcy still on. Yeh, $250 is big bucks, but it's better than spending $500 on a new one.
Sold my first gen ps3 on ebay for 550. Even YLOD first editions fetch a good price. (as Cadder stated)
Thanks for the reply's. My ps3 was mainly used for streaming video and such. So I'm wondering if the Xbox is the way to go, there are some good deals on the X box. Can the X box do the same as the ps3 in regards to streaming and usb?. We don't use disk's, so the blue ray player doesn't matter.
The XBOX can, but in my experience it does not do it as well. Not that I don't want you not to get a console, but what it sounds like is you want a PVR / media box that can play all codex's. (MP4, DIVX, WVA, MKV, etc.) Below is an example (not a recommendation ... don't know the unit) but as you can see, for less dollars than a console you can get a 1TB drive unit that will do what I think you need. 1TB 1000GB Network LAN HDMI RMVB Media Player Recorder - eBay Hard Drives, Drives, Components, Computers. contemplated selling my 60gb unit and buying the slim. but it seems the price is now dropping on the origonal 60gb consoles
nOOb, i'll give you $400 for it........ actually, seeing as you're me dad and love me and all, maybe just give it to me
just an update. Pulled out the HD took it to a mates house and reformatted the HD and she's all good, fingers crossed. On the down side I was nearly finished GTA4, now I got to start again
