I'm sure there are quite a few people around here that remember playing Quake 2 back in 97', so I thought I'd share a package that the tastyspleen community has put together for easily getting back into the game again:

    Quake II Starter

It's a freely distributable installer since it doesn't include any officially licensed game content, and it will separately download and install the Quake 2 3.14 demo and 3.20 point release on the users behalf.

You will be able to play through the original single player demo game, but what's nice is that it also includes a server browser so you can go online and play with everyone else that's still around (who are mostly into their 30's and 40's now!).

    I remember that specific map.
I entered a LAN contest with some of my friends, and I believed we ended up last due to us mostly killing each other....

Back in 99 when I was serving my last year in the Marines stationed in Okinawa ... We would play Quake Capture The Flag tourneys almost every week. Our office dominated ... Wow good times

tbh Q2 was the worst! Q1 was great and Q3A was the best imho! Orange Smoothie maps made it amazing for tourney play

I loved Quake II. I bought the pack on Steam just to re-live the memories.

Oh my... I can't believe that at one time I played like that...

Nowadays I just do not have the reflexes or the drive to be like that in those games. Unreal series or Quake series... I'm just not interested in being that good anymore.

Hey, that's me.... Too bad I didn't have that handle way back then.
Didn't watch it all, hope they had some l337 rocket jumps in there.
I bought Q2 on release, but god knows where the CD would be now. Think I got the pack on steam sale years ago.
Lots of fun LANs in Canberra in the 90's. Well before Q2 tho.

yeah I'm the same way with FPS nowadays, but I have Quake3 arena and teamarena installed on my pc with win7 64bit and with compatibility testing still can't get it to work. Anyone know of any other trick to get it compatible? If I had a 2nd computer like I used to I would be fine as it had winxp on it.

Played quake 1 and 2 alot with old lan parties back in my early 20's. Only game I have that works on the pc out of the quake series is Quake 4 which I've not played much of.

Nice video, he (she?) is better than I ever was. Used to have so much fun getting the lightning gun and zapping everyone in the water, including myself :)

Just in case some of you still have the old Q2 disc laying around:
    There is KMQuake II

get the unofficial patch to get quake 2 running with widescreen resolutions

also try the mod to run it with some spiffy newage graphic effects
