The original plan was that handles would be absolutely permanent, but because of the number of people reporting typos or who misunderstood where the handle would be displayed, we’re developing a new solution. Every backer will be allotted one free chance to change their handle. If you’ve made a mistake, changed your mind or just plain want something different, you will be allowed to change your handle once. Additional handle changes will be paid, $15 each time. This solution is being put together now and will be available late next week. If you’re waiting to change your handle, that will be your opportunity!" Anyone knows where the handle would be displayed ?
I believe this ties in with their naming ideas that were discussed some time back where a characters actual name may not be readily known as ships are identified by a pilots handle. Scans or other means of data collecting would then have a chance to reveal the name of the pilot as well. I'd have to go back and dig this up and it may well have changed but that's my best guess for the moment. Eg. My name: Nesox Kalim Handle: Foxman

I know I have someone who loves me and like to follow me around singing me praises. This name change tool would let me get away from this bro-mance gone wrong if it follows me into this game

Yeah I've seen that part before, it's more the use of the handle in game that remains a bit less certain. Not sure if I'll change my handle when the opportunity comes up though.
There is a perk in The Completionist "Name your Spaceship". So I assume it could be possible just very very expensive.....
I'd assume that refers to being able to name a class of ship judging by the required financial contribution for The Completionist, rather than just being able to name the ship you fly (at least I would hope so).
